I have been with the organization for over two years now and have enjoyed every minute of it! Everyday, I know I am working to allow people of all races, ages, genders, and more to receive quality music education. Where I grew up, quality music education was not always accessible and there were several times when I was denied the chance to learn and grow through music due to being a female and wanting to play drums. Music Works Northwest has an incredible faculty that encourages children and adults of any gender, age, race, or background to develop their musical talents in a friendly way. Music Works Northwest is a hidden gem in our community and I know I will be a part of this organization for the rest of my life in some way.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing growth and progress of students in music therapy and music lessons. Attending summer camps and recitals to see how quickly the students learn.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the students, parents, and my coworkers.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

extremely helpful. Our volunteers are incredibly dedicated and bright individuals.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

improve the facilities in which it gives lessons. Serve more local public schools and families.

It hard to put into words how much Music Works NW has contributed to the growth of both of my children. My daughter started vocal lessons with Susan Strick when she was in 5th grade and continued through high school. Susan helped her with her vocal skills as well as helped her feel confident getting up in front of a group. Thanks to Susan, Rachael has been cast in many lead roles in her school's musicals. My son, Jordan, has been taking guitar lessons from Josh for three years. It is amazing to see how far he has come! Thanks to Josh being an inspiration, Jordan simply refuses to put down the guitar. I can always count on Bonnie's friendly face at the front, keeping everything at the school in order. Music Works Northwest is a wonderful musical institution that our family is so fortunate to have been a part of.

We have been more than pleased with the experiences our children have had at MusicWorks Northwest over the last 4.5 years. They have benefited from private lessons (sax, flute, oboe), summer camps (Jazz) and opportunities to volunteer at events. The teachers have all been very professional while also being kid friendly, and the office staff is always helpful. We were steered there by several friends who had great experiences, and we recommend MusicWorks to anyone we know who is looking for a quality Music experience.

My son, Nicholas, now 12, went to a summer camp when he was 6 and had a great time and played his rain maker hand made instrument all over the house. For the last 9 months he has been taking weekly percussion lessons and it is helping him in his School Band experience as well as giving him musical enjoyment. We also attended a Percussion performance at one of the First Friday concerts and were really impressed by the quality of the musicians.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

get a bigger and nicer facility. It could reach out to more financially disadvantaged musicians with lessons or other support.

Excellent staff. Both my kids advanced quickly with their respective instruments (viola and guitar). I found all the staff there to be dedicated and talented teachers.

Ways to make it better...

The 8-week guitar "Rock Shop" were offered on the Eastside (as it used to be), instead of just on Mercer Island. It's very difficult for us (in Renton) to get our kids to Mercer Island on a school night.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

My three children have each been involved at Music Works over the past nine years, taking private lessons (piano, drums, clarinet, saxophone, guitar)as well as participating in ensemble and camp opportunities (jazz, Rock Shop) recitals, and faculty choice concerts. The caliber of teachers there is top-notch, and they are caring individuals who have made a tremendous contribution to my children's lives, both musically and personally.

I have been a musician my whole life, and can't imagine life without music. Musicworks brings the joy of music to anyone, including those that can't afford the full tuition. They don't require that you be "good" like some schools. This is a place where everyone shares a love of music, and it shows.

I've had the privilege of being attached to MusicWorks Northwest off and on for around 15 years or so. Starting with excellent music instruction and different types of ensemble opportunities like the percussion ensemble I really was able to get valuable experience that instilled my love of music. I've seen MusicWorks focus primarily on youth to including all ages in its programs. It has been fantastic to be in a group with people from different backgrounds and age groups. There are always new opportunities to try out as well.

I think they'd benefit from more of a formal equipment check-out/check-in process. Sometimes during rehearsals you are not sure what equipment may or may not be there. Also it would just be nice to know where things go. Asset allocation of sorts.
