The Missouri Valley Folklife Society, a volunteer-based, non-profit concert organization fosters the appreciation of music based in or influenced by Celtic & western European folk idioms. Our organization provides opportunities for local, regional and international folk musicians to perform for, educate and interact with audiences in affordable family-friendly environments.
MVFS presents an annual series of 4-6 roots music concerts performed by acclaimed international & local professional roots musicians. Concert artists/dates are scheduled as artists express interest & availability and are approved. For more than 25 years, MVFS has offered >150 concerts featuring roots music from the British Isles, Brittany, Iberia, Cape Breton & the Andes. We offer a family-friendly, smoke-free, alcohol-free environment. Audience members are welcome to stay after concerts to talk informally with the artists who are always happy to discuss music, instruments, & tradition. Post-concert parties are open to all the audience & offer opportunities for local musicians to share tunes & techniques with the artists or among themselves. As an all-volunteer organization, hands-on opportunities are open to all who enjoy traditional music & want to participate in the process of making it heard.4 concerts will be presented in 2008-2009
