Reviews for Medshare
MedShare is the hands-on volunteer opportunity I've been looking for! You really feel like you're making a huge difference and saving countless lives when sorting supplies and packing boxes that go to developing countries. The staff are very friendly and there's a great volunteer center to hang out and chat or eat. I definitely recommend volunteering at MedShare as often as you can.
MedShare has great stories to share. Stories of of seemingly hopeless situations, that can be turned around by the power of the boxes that are sent out. Each box a volunteer packs, is a box of hope and volunteers can really feel like they are saving lives- without having to be a doctor. Its fascinating to hear stories of the kind hearts people have. Listening to Medical Mission teams who are going or coming to place that have been devastated is so inspiring. I might not be able to support some cause or another monetarily, but MedShare makes me feel like I can support people across the globe who really need the surplus that we have!
MedShare is a fantastic organization to work for! We take unused medical supplies and ship them to nations and communities that want and will use them. Instead of hospitals and clinics filling up local landfills with unused supplies, we collect them and our amazing volunteers sort, repackage and prepare them for distribution in the U.S. and abroad.
I had the great opportunity to volunteer with this organization for the past two years. They are very well organized, there facility is well maintained and their staff is very welcoming! This organization deserves much more recognition than it currently receives, their work is incredibly and helping the healthcare of many foreign and suffering countries.
I've been volunteering with Medshare for 3 years. I was so impressed by their welcoming attitude and openness to answer any and all questions. I love the fact while helping the many poor countries with needed medical supplies were also keeping this medical waste out of our landfill - it's a win win. Come volunteer at Medshare - you won't be disappointed!

As a current Western Region Council member and former Board member of MedShare, I still feel so privileged to be part of this extraordinary organization. The passion of staff and volunteers for MedShare's mission and work in both the U.S. and around the world is limitless. Everyone takes such pride in helping those in need at local safety net clinics, at hospitals and clinics in developing countries, and particularly in times of crisis, including the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the horrendous typhoons in the Philippines or the continuing Ebola crisis in West Africa. All of these efforts depend on financial donations and the thousands of volunteers who help sort surplus medical supplies and equipment which would otherwise go into landfill. MedShare definitely deserves all the accolades it receives and more!
I have been volunteering at MedShare for about 2 years. I know nothing about medical supplies, but I don't need to, because there are lots of medically knowledgeable people who are happy to help me decide which bins the supplies should go into. The only qualifications you need to be of help at MedShare are the ability to stand for 3 hours (with a sit-down break midway through) and the ability to match-up identical items. If you volunteer at MedShare you will be among friendly folks who have in common a desire to help other people. Sign up today!!

MedShare is an amazing organization that is making a difference in communities around the world lacking access to adequate healthcare. Imagine doctors having to wash and reuse the same pair of gloves on multiple patients or imagine patients having to receive exams on the floor because no exam table is available. This is not uncommon in many parts of the world and is a reality that MedShare is committed to changing, by providing under-served healthcare facilities with the basic medical supplies and equipment needed to deliver quality healthcare.
MedShare utilizes volunteer support to help sort and package the medical supplies sent on their container shipments all over Asia, Africa, Latin America, and United States. These items are surplus donations that would have been thrown away. Instead, volunteers help re-purpose these supplies for MedShare's recipients. Getting involved as a volunteer is very easy to schedule, as well as highly rewarding. Knowing that your service is helping save human lives, improve healthcare, and is benefiting our environment makes this a unique opportunity to make such a big difference in a short 3-hour volunteer shift.
The mission of MedShare is absolutely fantastic. MedShare is about SHARING. That is, the sharing of excess medical supplies in the USA- (where there is an astounding amount of waste in the healthcare industry) with hospitals and clinics in the developing countries which do not have enough. These facilities often have bare shelves and even have to ask the patients to buy their own medical supplies for their procedures if they want to be treated. The MedShare donations arrive, and those who really need them have access to basic hospital necessities like gloves, masks, syringes, dressings, surgical drapes, sutures, IV sets, and more. As a volunteer, your job is to sort and quality-control the medical supplies that are donated to MedShare before they get shipped abroad. The impact you make is enormous! Volunteer at MedShare if you want to really make a difference.
I am a volunteer member of MedShare's Western Regional Council (not really a board member). I love working with MedShare because everyone involved is totally focused on repurposing still good medical supplies and equipment (that would otherwise be tossed into land fill) and getting it into the hands of people who want it (they can order exactly what they want) and will use it. What could be better? This is what...they are a four star charity and they keep overhead extraordinarily low by engaging a large group of volunteers to do the hands-on work of sorting and storing collected supplies. That means when you donate to MedShare your dollars go to get the job done, not pay salaries and other type of overhead that could be done in a less costly way. It is a great non-profit.
