I've been working as a volunteer with Livada and contributing financially for the last several years. This organization and its founder are a model for other organizations that to follow.
As both a certified public accountant and a lawyer with experience researching fraudulent organizations, I am always skeptical of new non-profits and charities serving disadvantaged children. in the case of Livada I can say, without any reason to doubt, that this is an excellent organization serving orphaned and marginalized children in Romania. After having volunteered with another organization serving Romania in the early 2000s, I connected with the Livada leadership--namely its director, Bruce Thomas--with the intention of learning more about their programs in Romania as I prepared for some field research for a paper i was writing at Harvard Law School. Not only did Livada provide me with the opportunity to serve the children in Targu-Mures, Romania in a tangible way, but also provided me unparalleled access to its Romanian citizen workers in country for the purposes of my research. I continued my work with Livada during my time studying European Family Law at the University of Cambridge in England, and again was given unparalleled access and the opportunity to work with abandoned infants and toddlers in Romania. My husband and i will be lifelong supporters of Livada, giving both time and financial assistance as we are able. If you want to serve marginalized children in a hands on, tangible way -- schedule a trip. If you want to make a charitable contribution and know your money is being used on the ground for its intended purpose -- check out their financial statements, which demonstrate the relatively low administrative costs of the organization. If you are interested in learning more about the crisis facing abandoned and marginalized children in Romania, I encourage you to engage with the Livada leadership--Mr. Thomas in particular has dedicated his life's work to providing a way out for these children who have no other advocate.
Visiting the baby hospital during the summer and seeing first hand the love and commitment from the Livada staff was incredible. It was evident that they love those babies so much and invest into each one. I left there knowing the God is surely working through this organization and making a huge impact in the lives of these children.
Loved our time in Romania serving the orphans. It was a great opportunity for my then 12 year old daughter and I to do a mission trip together and to learn about another culture. We could see that this organization was making a huge impact for Christ serving these children and sharing God's love with them.
This past summer (2016) was my 4th trip to Romania to work with Livada Orphan Care. This year we had a team of 15 that worked a week in Summer camp working with State orphans. THERE are no words to describe the experience but I will give it a try....exhilarating, heart warming, faith building, exhausting, lovely. The love, kindness and compassion that the Livada team shares is transforming. MY 14 yr old daughter served at my side and her life has forever been changed. You can't leave Romania without a new and fresh look at life as you know it. MAY God continue to bless their efforts in caring for the children of Romania.
I've been to Romania twice so far and am currently planning to return in 2014. Livada has such a great heart for the children there and the work they do is amazing. Even more amazing is to see God answering prayer as their ministry continues to grow. The growth and maturity I see in the LOC group home kids is wonderful. I will continue to support Livada financially, as well as giving my time over there, as long as God allows me too. May God continue to bless them.
WOW! Volunteering with Livada Orphan Care was such a blessing! As we loved upon precious lives, we made friends and experienced joy that can only come from true love! Thank you LOC for loving the one and listening to the Fathers heart
As a volunteer you're supposed to be the one helping others, your work be the one that changes lives, but in the meantime you grow together, teach as much as learn, and experience incredible moments in the company of amazing people.
Keep up, Livada, you certainly make a difference!
I served with Livada as a team member with my church one summer and then as an intern a few summers after. The heart for Jesus and children this ministry has is endearing. I loved being a part of this ministry and literally being the hands and feet of Jesus. This ministry isn't just about going, sharing Jesus and leaving....they plant roots, they share Jesus, build enduring relationships and bring glory to Jesus' name!
I served with Livada briefly in 2014. What a privilege to work alongside an ethical, caring and effective Godly ministry that truly cares about changing lives of children and young adults.
