I volunteered with the LBWP and served on its Board until leaving the area last year. This group accomplishes has had an impressive impact on the local watershed and environmental concerns considering its limited resources and size. There are a number of highly committed individuals and they do a lot of community outreach through nature walks, educational programs, being active to preserve sites and natural areas, and have remarkably successful. However, it is an area with many environmental stresses and there is always more need than people and the current infrastructure can support. I strongly urge anyone interested in this area to support this group and what they are doing in any way that you can! I would love to see them grow to the next level and be able to do even more!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
cross-country skiing in a natural area the group helped to preserve
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Conduct a SWOT analysis, use that to develop a concrete short, medium and long-term strategic and operating plan, create a succession plan to insure a dynamic and evolving board, make use of Facebook to communicate with members and keep emails brief
Would you volunteer for this group again?
For the time you spent, how much of an impact did you feel your work or activity had?
Did the organization use your time wisely?
Would you recommend this group to a friend?
When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?
Perhaps being more focused on fewer things would make it easier to manage given the resource constraints and people would feel less overwhelmed and participate more.
It was a great experience overall, both because of the people involved and the opportunity to learn more about the challenges and opportunities associated with running a nonprofit.
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
Happy that I could make at least a small difference in my community to help protect and preserve our environment.
