Financial records are not made public to donors and the President and the General Treasurer are husband and wife, which creates a major conflict of interest. Also, they have had numerous of address changes which concerns me in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The mission statement is very sound, however, their internal infrastructure needs critical rebuilding. Perhaps, the most troubling concern is that the General Treasurer (wife) is not a U.S. Citizen, therefore, she has the ability to flee to her native country in the event that monetary contributions are audited by the IRS and when descrepancies are found, the ease in which she would be able to flee is just an uncomfortable feeling.
The consititution of the organization says that the VP has to be a U.S. Citizen, which, the person, a gentleman by the name "Civil A. Garry" is not, he is a Haitian national, according to the organization's website, "www.elcapellan.com."
So, I do not completely recommend this 501 (c)(3), however, if the organization is re-structured, I would recommend, however, I would seek other organizations to donate at this time.
I am a former member of this organization.
