Mission: To provide educational opportunities, benefits, and programs to the public to enhance the awareness of and foster an appreciation and understanding of contemporary folk art.

the center has a museum store that provides an outlet for folk art and education materials.
the center conducts a biannual arts and crafts fair to create a market for regional crafts people. "a day in the country" folk art show brings dozens of folk artists to morehead in early june each year.
the center brings at least four new exhibits to east kentucky each year. The exhibitions range in content from folk art, such as textiles or found assemblages, to contextually related subject matter, including regional history and food traditions. The center also produces original traveling exhibitions. Exhibitions of kentucky folk art travel throughout kentucky and into other states and countries.
the center has a growing permanent collection of nearly 1,000 works of regional folk artists. Through this collection, the center strives to preserve and promote a broader understanding of traditional and contemporary folk art
