Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Food, Nutrition

Mission: The jamie oliver food foundation (joff) works to bring food education to schools and youth groups, businesses and communities. It does this by raising awareness to galvanize policy changes at a local and national level, offering hands-on training to instill food skills and knowledge, and founding relationships to enable us to scale nationally.

Programs: The learn your fruits and vegetables program is a simple hands on food education resource and funding for local schools and youth groups for children ages 5 - 14 years old. Children who were taught the program learned the life skills that are the first step into understanding food, fruits and vegetables, and cooking for yourself, and the effect this can have on your body long term. Around 8,000 children will have gone through the cooking classes in their local communities. Each participating organization monitors the program and a new feedback look is being intergrated into the program.

the big rig tour program entailed the big rig mobile kitchen classroom visiting various communities and teaching children, adults and families to cook. Joff's big rig is a 53-foot tractor-trailer mobile kitchen classroom and mobile food theater that brings food education and cooking classes to underserved communities. The big rig has eight cooking stations, six ovens, four sinks, a dishwasher and its own water and electrical supplies, allowing sixteen students to cook on the big rig at one time. The big rig also has an enormous amphitheater, fold-out stage and full audio-visual connectivity for educational presentations. On its first tour, the big rig taught cooking and nutrition classes in both english and spanish to over 400 students per week. For each big rig stop, the food team tailored the curriculum to meet the specific needs of the particular community. An independent outcomes research study under the founding director of the university of southern california childhood obesity research center found that the first big rig tour achieved high increases in consumption of fruit and vegetables, fiber and whole grains and improved participants' understanding of cooking and shopping for food products.

the google worksite cooking program entailed the joff team teaching jamie's curriculum of cooking classes in google's cafeterias to their staff. The program advocates healthier cooking and eating habits. In addition, the program works to help motivate corporate employees to improve their behaviors when it comes to food, giving them the tools and confidence to cook more meals at home.

food revolution day is a global day of action with the goal of educating children about food in a fun and engaging way. The program targets schools, organizations and individuals by enlisting ambassadors in local areas to teach cooking skills and food knowledge. To date, 74 countries have taken part and over 1,200 ambassadors are championing the cause worldwide.

I became a voluntary ambassador for the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation, as part of the Food Revolution, in January of 2014. What an amazing organization!

I have been promoting the value of REAL food, and cooking for oneself for many years, and it was so neat to me come into an organization and community that stood entirely for the same thing.

This is one of the most supportive, caring, and passionate groups of people that I've come across. Many food organizations and groups can become dogmatic and exclusive - not so with the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation. Jamie Oliver's passion for accessible, quality food, and straightforward food education shines clearly through in every layer of the organization.

What I find especially cool, is that the JOFF is not only changing lives, but people are having fun in the process. Making healthy changes, and creating healing on our society can and should be inspiring and fun (that's really the best way to make lasting change) - and that's exactly where the JOFF excels.

I'm honored to be a volunteer for this organization, and am proud to spread the message.

I am the Ambassador in Haarlem, The Netherlands for the Jamie Oliver Food Revolution. I applied to become a volunteer in 2013 and have been an active member since that time. I joined the JOFR because of my admiration for Jamie Oliver and his world-wide efforts dedicated towards helping others to understand the importance of good, fresh and healthy food.

Healthy eating is about utilizing good ingredients in a balanced manner. Knowing how to cook enables everyone to create variety at home with seasonal dishes made from scratch. Cooking from scratch has a greater significance than just a single plate on the table. Cooking fresh and from scratch reflects one's dedication to good food and a good life for friends and family.

I wanted to get involved in the Food Revolution in order to contribute meaningfully to my community, channeling and rallying my efforts behind those of the Jamie Oliver Foundation. As an ambassador I am able to enter into contact with like-minded people, crossing continents to share similar ideas. The Food Revolution provides countless resources to its volunteers, from literature focused on food education for schools, to seasonal ideas and recipes which may be utilized for community cooking classes. The Foundation also relays interesting literature and relevant news items to its volunteers regularly.

The JOFR organization is uniquely inspiring because of its personal and sincerely interested approach to the individual ambassadors. The Jamie Oliver Foundation highlights and celebrates the efforts and activities of the Revolution ambassadors, spreading the word through social media of the singular achievements taking place on a daily basis throughout the world, while connecting the volunteers in order to make group efforts possible. Furthermore, the Foundation engages a staff focused not only on social media, but also on the day to day questions and concerns of its ambassadors, as well as the more universal questions concerning a worthy food policy.

At the Foundation, small changes do mean something. Without attempting to be critical, the Food Revolution aims to energize people to cook, share their knowledge and above all else to help motivate others to consider the health and happiness of their children and their surroundings. I can highly recommend the Jamie Oliver Foundation. It represents ideals worth achieving and carries through by making a real contribution through honest and good work.

Sincerely,
Terri Salminen

Hi! My name is Lindsey Shifley and I am a volunteer Food Ambassador for the JOFF Food Revolution. I came across this organization after making a family food change that helped my daughter overcome social and academic difficulties she was having in school 2 years ago. I was researching the connection between food and academic success and found Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. I knew I wanted to help spread the message of Food Education in our schools and community and I applied immediately! The big world has become much smaller as JOFF connects so many organizations and individuals together who are all intent on increasing food education so that we can lead healthier, happier lives! It's such a serious topic, tackling our nation and world's obesity epidemic... but JOFF knows how to make it happen! The Ambassador Program has given my passion for food education a huge steering wheel with clear vision. As a former student athlete, I believe in the importance of inspired leadership, perseverance and the power of team mentality. And boy do they deliver on all three aspects!!

The Food Revolution's educational resources and vast network is truly extraordinary and there is no way to quantify the impact I have made with the program's support. It's given me a global community to lean on, learn from and more than anything else... to gather with. I went from feeling like a castaway on an island (jumping off the processed food highway is HARD on so.many.levels) to feeling like I am part of one big love boat. I'm connected to people across the country and across vast oceans. Never would I have found such wonderful, like-minded, passionate friends like this without my global ambassador community.

Not every family is dealing with sensory processing issues like mine, and I love that the Food Revolution's message has universal truth and appeal. My ambassadorship helps me to connect with all families and individuals looking to create a healthier food environment. Today, I am not just a passionate Mom having fun spreading a powerful family story; I am a global team leader playing hard to breathe energy and life into real food education for all. It's such an honor to add my light to the torch Jamie has lit. Together, we can turn this mother ship around together... to leave a legacy behind that gives our children's generation a path to better health and to a better world. I have NEVER had so much satisfaction in working... they always say love.what.you.do... thanks to JOFF... I SURE DO!!
