International Eye Foundation is dedicated to helping people see! Since 1961 IEF has taken up the challenge in poor countries around the world, helping to restore sight and prevent blindness. IEF offers strong new strategic directions that focus on making eye clinics financially self sufficient. IEFs achievements include developing eye health services, training ophthalmologists and para-medicals, and fighting vitamin A deficiency, trachoma and river blindness. IEF is now strengthening the management, quality of service, and income generating activities so that eye clinics are less dependent on outside donors and government funds.
IEF programs to help people see in the developing world are under the umbrella of SightReach(r), which has three components addressing disease targets, barrier of cost to eye care, and financial sustainability:SightReach(r) Prevention: - Programs target the 4 conditions responsible for 80% of the world's blindness - cataract, trachoma, onchocerciasis, and childhood blindness.SightReach Surgical(r): - A social enterprise to eliminate the barrier of high cost of providing quality eye care and surgery. Offers high quality ophthalmic medical and surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment at low cost in order to bring down the price of eye care and surgery while ensuring that the poor and indigent still receive quality care.SightReach(r) Management: - Enhances financial self-sufficiency of eye care providers leading to improved quality of service outcomes and sustainability of eye care services.

The IEF is an excellent small humanitarian NGO whose 30 year goal has been the prevention / reduction of blindness in the developing world. Ninety percent of all world blindness / low vision is in middle- income and low - income countries.
They have had amazing success with limited funds. They use their resources well. Would strongly recommend this eye NGO. They do great work.

I have been a donor to this organization for a number of years. The reason I first started to give was because of the programs they have in Latin America.
I have continued to be a donor and have increased my donations over the years as I have seen what an outstanding job they do working in developing countries all around the world.
IEF spends their money on the things that matter - i.e. directly on the people who need help, not on overheads and fancy offices.
I would recommend this charity to anyone who is interested in preventing blindness and restoring sight .
