Mission: The Humane Society of Montgomery County shelter provides assistance in placing healthy adoptable animals from Montgomery County through referral services and/or housing. All animals are housed in our "no-kill" shelter until suitable families are found. Unless there is room in the shelter immediately, animals are placed on a waiting list and are moved in as room becomes available. The shelter staff uses list information to help match animals with callers expressing an interest in adopting. They also keep a "Lost" and "Found" list of animals reported to the shelter as lost or found.

I have always found it easier to be kind to animals than to some people that I have known. Whenever I have needed to add to four-legged family, I have always found the most wonderful animals at the Montgomery County Humane Society. This organization operates primarily through the kindness of volunteers and always puts the animals first. Every animal is spayed or neutered before he/she is released to a "forever" home. Every time I visit, all the animals seem so happy, so I know they are being well taken care of. My current felines were once boarders there - Riley, the 20 black Siamese (by voice) and One-eyed Jack Sparrow (he had lost his eye before being surrendered). Riley is my lap cat, while Jack keeps everybody hopping . He is constantly trying to jump to the top of my dining room table and has no distance vision - so he ends up catching the table cloth and pulling everything to the floor. It's hard not to love the organization that has brought such joy to my life!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the purrs and barks the greet every day when I come home.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
build them a bigger building so that no animals would have to be put down. This is a no-kill shelter and uses foster-parenting to relieve some of the stress put upon it.
