The Historical Society of Kent County is one of the friendliest and most helpful historical societies I have ever worked with. The current administration is working very hard to make sure all members of Kent County, including marginalized groups such as the African-American and Hispanic populations, have their histories recorded. The Society often engages with the community, providing historic home tours, Ghost Walks around Halloween (I got to lead some last year!), monthly Tea & Talks and frequent guest speakers/exhibits. When I expressed an idea I had about making some of the material more accessible, the director of the society was very supportive and made sure that it happened. I've been taking home oral histories on the weekends to transcribe for fun. I really really love this organization.
