Mission:

"Helping Hearts Equine Rescue is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit animal welfare organization incorporated in the State of New Jersey. We are dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of equines in need; assisting equines in situations of neglect, abuse or threat of slaughter located in, but not necessarily limited to Monmouth, Middlesex and Ocean Counties - in our home state of New Jersey. To educate the public regarding the standards of care required to maintain an equine as a riding partner and/or companion animal in a humane manner."

Programs:

Our Goals: (1) Accept into our program equines in need who have been victims of abuse, neglect or abandonment; (2) Assist in the placement of equines under the care of private owners who can no longer maintain them; (3) Provide necessary management, veterinary and farrier care for those equines under our protection; (4) Rehabilitate and adopt out equines to suitable homes as sport-horse prospects; pleasure riding prospects or as retirement/companion animals; (5) Obtain sponsorships for those equines who maintain a permanent residency within the auspices of our organization; (6) To provide all animals under our care with a comfortable and dignified existence without pain or suffering. If and when physical and medical circumstances no longer allow that comfortable life; to let them go gently and kindly with a humane veterinary-assisted euthanasia.

Under Lisa and Chris' care, I have seen many, many horses go from starved & scared, whether from auction, owner surrender or abandonment, to happy, healthy animals - many ready for loving adoptive families. Those with chronic ailments or advanced age, will more likely than not, find themselves Permanent Residents, assured to live their remaining years in comfort & love. Foals have started their lives under the watchful eye of HHER, never having to experience the trauma of an auction at the start of their young lives.
The souls who's lives are at an end, are treated with dignity, respect and are helped to cross the Rainbow Bridge without suffering. And its always a sad day to learn when one has crossed. They go knowing no fear, that their golden years were spent being cared for and loved.
Anyone wanting to adopt an 'HHER Graduate', must complete an application process & undergo a through screening process. If at any time an adoptive family can no longer care for the animal, he or she comes back to HHER.
Bentley's story is a wonderful case. Bentley is a Clydesdale, who was pulled from an auction in April of 2009, severely under weight. Several hundred pounds later, he was ready for adoption. Roughly 2 years later, he was retrieved & brought home, looking far worse than he did when he was brought in to begin with. Because of the health problems associated with the starvation he once again endured, Bentley is now a permanent resident of HHER. You see, I was there when Bentley was brought to the farm from the auction & worked with him on a volunteer basis for a while; I was there just before he left for his adoptive home and I saw the result of his 2 years away - my heart broke... This lovable, gentle giant will forever hold a place in my heart...

Many 'disposable' horses have found new lives thanks to Lisa & HHER... some mares, in foal, have been brought in & had their little ones right on the farm. I have seen horses saved from neglect by their former owners - left abandon when they moved away. Lisa has gone & picked them up, nursed them back to health & adopted them out; I have seen seniors rescued from both the 'auction' here in NJ & the one in PA - horses, that were only seen as a machine to some, when their usefulness over, dumped and destined for slaughter. My heart swells when I see some of the pictures & videos of the 'graduates' from HHER - and sometimes the tears well, knowing that so many of these magnificent animals have found homes; some living out their golden years in comfort, security & with love they so richly deserve .... Thank you, Lisa...

We have supported Helping Hearts Equine Rescue for many years, and are continually impressed by the way that Lisa Post is so dedicated to her rescues. She and her volunteers demonstrate such loving care and respect for these wonderful animals. The unwanted, unloved, abused or just "too old" rescues can live out their lives with dignity thanks to Helping Hearts Equine Rescue.

My husband and I have been donors to Helping Hearts Equine Rescue for several years, and we are continually amazed by Lisa's compassionate dedication to her rescues, and all the animals under her care. She is so personally involved with her equine family, and always is there to give them the love that they need. It is heartwarming to see how the abused and unloved seniors come to spend their golden years under the care of HHER. We are proud to be supporters on a monthly basis, and have encouraged friends to do the same.

The unloved, unwanted, elderly and abused horses in New Jersey have hope and happiness because of Helping Hearts Equine Rescue. Lisa Post is tireless in her efforts to improve the lives and gain the trust of horses in need, and because of her and her volunteers, these stately animals have a chance to regain their dignity. There are those who will spend their golden years and final days in the green pastures of this country retreat, and there are others who are seeking forever homes with their very own loving humans. Helping Hearts works endlessly to serve their individual needs, and my husband and I are proud to be sponsors. We have been saddened to see the passing of some very old residents (I have tears when I think of Simon and Keller) but we know that their retirement years were ones of great happiness which was a fitting tribute to their hard unappreciated younger days.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

not change a thing.

Whether you are looking to make a donation or adopt an animal, Helping Hearts is a charity you can trust. While their focus is on Equine rescue, there are many different animals that have been taken in and found homes through this charity. They are completely transparent. There is no doubt that your donations (monetary and otherwise) are going straight to the care of the animals. The facebook page is a wonderful source of news, updates, photos and videos. I adopted my horse, Honey, from Helping Hearts. The adoption process is thorough, fair, and you are given as much information as possible to make sure you and your companion have the best chance at forever friendship! Helping Hearts is a wonderful charity that I would recommend time and again.

I found my horse at Helping Hearts and was instantly in love with him and this nonprofit. The work that HHER does for animals is without a doubt some of the hardest and most emotional work that one can do strictly out of the goodness of their heart. I admire this organization and have the utmost respect for them. The care they give the animals that they take in goes above and beyond the normal standard of care. There are not enough words in the english language to describe how wonderful this organization is.

Helping Hearts Equine Rescue is an amazing organization. I adopted a pony from Helping Hearts two years ago and have been following the rescue since. The facility is beautiful and well-kept. HHER offers a soft landing to unwanted equines. The equines not only receive amazing daily care but each receives individual attention and is clearly loved.

I recently adopted a pony from Helping Hearts, and I cannot say enough good things about the organization. It was evident from my first interaction with Lisa that she puts so much heart into her work. The pony whom I adopted had a rough past, and I cannot imagine where she might be today if it weren't for Helping Hearts. I am so grateful that Helping Hearts swept her up and gave her a second chance. There are so many deserving animals out there that just need some TLC, and Helping Hearts does just that. It is truly an amazing organization!!

Hi I am Julie Stern aka: "horsekisserer". I have now been a volunteer for Lisa at Helping Hearts for a year this past May. I came to her looking for something to be passionate about. I am one of those who is always looking to have something "MAKE" me happy or "FEEL" good. Me and my hubby came to her orientation and was instantly at home and in love. I've never felt that feeling of "this is for me". Ever since then I have been going there every Saturday and whenever I can sneak away from work. I had started out just saying oh, I will be there every other Saturday or just for a few hours....
I have learned so much about myself and the world of horsemanship.
Also alot about devotion, sadness, love and fun. NOT just anyone can do this rescue business. IT takes
so much time, energy and just determination. Lisa has literally given and is giving her life for these horses that no one else will take, sick, toothless, hurt you name it. I've never met anyone who does this and not only that but has time for volunteers and teaching riding lessons to boot! I wish I could win the lottery and give it all to her. She and Helping Hearts has changed my life forever not to mention the wonderful folks who support her.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Just wish for a win fall of money to help Helping hearts get stronger, and stay around forever.

My name is Julie Stern and I volunteer for Lisa Post at Helping Hearts Equin Rescue. I chose her place to volunteer first by reading her wonderful Web page. I had also searched the other sites and just could not get a warm fuzzy, as they say. I then with my husband, went to her orientation. She takes a full two hours with everyone, and from the start is very engaging, full of wonderful stories, information and she is very organized and just knows her stuff.

I know nothing of horses, but needed to do something to help me feel better and also to help give back. I had in the past volunteered at our local animal shelter but after a year felt more worn out than fulfilled. I began my time with Lisa in May of this year and have been in love with the place, people, animals ever since. I have never been so proud of saying....I'm a volunteer.
The animals Lisa takes in are abused, not wanted or as of recently, blind. Now how many people do you know that will do that? Lisa works hard, she never makes you feel like your in the way and is always very grateful for your help, nothing is ever not enough. In the same hand, I am proud, gained knowledge of things I never knew, and became a part of some animals life who has gone to a forever home. I try at any opportunity to let people know of Helping Hearts, and try to bring others with me, so they to can see and feel what I do! The hardest part of this is watching the horses go to another home. You get so attached and they feel like they are yours, but we know it is only borrowed time and then they must go to someone else for a new and final home. Too me Helping Hearts is just amazing.

The Helping Hearts Equine Rescue does an amazing job. Horses are treated with care but also with so much love. I don't think I've ever seen such happy horses in my life.

I started volunteering in a limited way, at HHER in the summer of 2009. It was one of the best life choices I have ever made. I have learned so much from Lisa Post, who is a dedicated horse advocate and who gives the rescued equines in her care, every chance to be rehabilitated and find a forever home. And if they aren't suitable for adoption, she keeps them as permanent residents. I have been so impressed by her knowledge and by the depth of the care she gives each horse. She was also responsible for creating a group of people who find information about equines at a nearby livestock auction and network that information on social media. Through this group, hundreds of horses have been saved and continue to be saved, from the slaughter pipeline. I feel fortunate that my introduction to horse rescue came from HHER. Wish I could give it 10 stars. Lisa Post is one of my heroes.

Helping Hearts is one of my favorite equine rescues. Every donation goes toward the horses, donkeys and mule's. They are also very active on social media so you can see how your donations help.
