Our education programs respond innovatively to the unique gifts and challenges of the children, youth, and adults of the communities we serve. We offer youth leadership internships throughout the year to youth from our neighborhood. Internships include training in job readiness, community service, teamwork, and diversity awareness training. Our adult english language-learning programs have traditionally served people with less than 3 years of education arguably the hardest to reach students in any community.

Harbor House Ministries is a non-profit Christian organization dedicated to helping children and their parents in the San Antonio district of West Oakland. The staff is professional, courteous, honest and helpful. Located like a beacon on a hill the Victorian era house is suited for this ministry, which has served over 100,000 people in spiritual, economic, and educational development over the past 40 years.
Harbor House provides a lot of services, including: tutoring programs for children; volunteer-led English classes and professional ESL programs for adults; emergency food and clothing distribution as well as a thrift store for the neighborhood; kids clubs and after-school programs; plus a safe off-the-street hangout for teens. The children I've seen participating in the program seem genuinely happy and confident. Harbor House is changing lives on a daily basis.
There are many ways a person can help with the work Harbor House is doing. Like most non-profits, it takes donations and volunteers to run the facility and do the good work. Contact Harbor House for additional information on how you can help.
