Legacy good samaritan medical center, founded in 1875 by the episcopal diocese of oregon, stands in the heart of northwest portland as one of the pacific northwests oldest and most advanced medical centers. Legacy good samaritan provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient services, with special emphasis on its centers of excellence, including:* cancer services* critical care* devers eye institute * diabetes services* heart services* legacy hospice services* legacy research institute* rehabilitation institute of oregonin fiscal year 2014, philanthropic contributions supported programs in four major areas:patient care $3,395,723research $2,252,470 education and training $1,018,968 community benefit & other hospital programs $40,186some of the specific projects funded in this year were as follows: supported the addition of three new exam rooms and a waiting area to increase access to care at devers memorial eye clinic. Purchased eight new beds to enhance the comfort and safety of behavioral health patients in the emergency department. Supported a pilot project with my street grocery to increase access to low-cost, healthy food and nutrition counseling for low-income patients of the internal medicine clinic. Supported screenings and examinations at devers eye institute for patients without insurance or other financial resources. Provided operating support for legacy hospice services. Provided prescription assistance and durable medical equipment to patients without insurance or other financial resources. Supported a new collaborative project to study the dynamic auto regulation of the optic nerve head. Supported the establishment of new research programs in cochlear implantation. Supported the acceleration of new research on the connection between adenosine and neurological diseases. Provided scholarships for nursing students attending the linfield school of nursing. Supported continuing education for legacy good samaritan medical center staff. Supported the care and maintenance of the stenzel healing garden. Supported the operations of green gables guest house.
