I've been a Girl Scout for 9 years. I started out as a Daisy in Rhode Island,
moved to North Carolina where I was a Brownie to Junior. Another move to Ohio where i was Junior and bridged to a cadette. A year overseas I was a Juliette and now I'm back in North Carolina as a cadette. In Girl Scouts I have made lots of friends and done a lot of fun projects. I have a core of 5 friends who have all been in scouts since 1st grade. We are have saved for a special trip for 3 years and are going to NYC to bridge ( move to the next level) across the Brooklyn Bridge.
I've also been able and animals while doing community service. One community service project we did was to help the local animal shelter, we raised money to buy toys and took care of the dogs at the shelter.
I enjoy being a Girl Scout and will continue next year!

I have been in GSHNC for many years as a troop leader and also as a member of the Service Unit team for my service unit. The support I have received from Hornets' Nest Council has been unwavering.
Concerns are listened to and addressed. Council staff continues to improve communications between Council and volunteers.

Although I no longer have a troop, I continue to volunteer with the Service Unit. GSHNC staff wants us to be successful and the support network provided by the staff is one of the reasons I volunteered to be a Service Unit manager again.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Provide information sooner so the SU as a whole is able to respond proactively.

We've been with girl scouts since 2004, and have had many wonderful experiences. Council has always come up with fun things for the girls to participate in, as well as making sure we have lots of community service. All the events and activities that a Girl Scout has the opportunity to participate in provide great experiences for girls to grow and learn about themselves, others and their world.

Through Girl Scouting, I have watched girls grow with the courage, character and confidence that Girl Scouting promotes. I have watched as a high school Girl Scout who had no friends was invited by her Girl Scout friend to sit at the "popular" table at lunch and was suddenly deemed socially accceptable by the other students at school. I have seen a girl without a mother receive the motherly care by other girls who took her shopping for undergarmets because her dad was uncomfortable with this task. I have seen girls who would not have gone to college, complete a four year degree because they saw the importance of supporting themselves through Girl Scouting. I have seen young girls feel strong as they have learned lifetime skills such as drilling a hole or hammering a nail. I have had parents thank me that their daughter had the skills to lead their families through times when the power had been out and the girl scout was the only one who could start a fire or prepare a meal on a campstove. I have seen friendships of sisters develop as they crawl into a bunk next to a fellow girl scout on a cold camping trip or share their food. I have seen girls learn acceptance of special citizens or of a family with economic hardships through service to their community. I have seen girls scared faces as they hang from a high ropes challenge course and later beam with pride that they completed it. I have seen young girls develop into the leaders of tomorrow. II have been lucky to be a Girl Scout leader.

I have been a troop leader in this Council for 6 years. The amount of support and guidance I have received has been terrific. Our district has had the most fabulous women step up and guide us. They are great examples to the girls of how women can be strong leaders who CAN make the world a better place. They bring innovative ideas to keep the girls interested through their teen years -- no easy task in this day and age! They offer a variety of programs that are learning experiences, fun challenges, skill strengthening, and most important of all, ways to build lifelong friendships. I am proud to be a member of this great organization.

They have given me the resources to lead my troop effectively. I have learned many things and have grown personally from being part of this group. My relationship with my daughter is stronger as I get to see a different side of her when she is participating in GS activities.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give them the $5000 prize so they can continue their mission of helping girls grow into strong women who will be tomorrow's leaders.

I have been in Girl Scouts for 12 years and I love it. I graduated high school last year and didn't want to give it up so I became a leader. I love being able to have younger girls look up to me and let them have the chance to do stuff they wouldnt normally do. If it wasn't for Girl Scouts then I wouldnt be who I am today.

I have experienced them in a lot of ways. Through the girls excitement, through the hard work they do, and even from the times they run up to you in walmart and they are like hey.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

This organization is amazing and the only thing i would change would be more programs that are broad so they have plenty of options.

I have been volunteering with Girl Scouts Hornets Nest Council since my daughter was in the 1st grade, she is now an 8th grader and is training to be a leader. I have seen girls from all walks of life over the years and the impact this organization has made on their lives is just almost more than I can put into words. These girls have been given opportunities to travel places they would have never got to travel, they have been to events they would not have been able to attend, they have all tried things they would have never tried, and they have all been a lot more successful in their live because of Girl Scouts. This organization builds character, and self-esteem, which is what a lot of these girls need. I have seen girls get financial assistance when they did not think they were going to get to join girl scouts, or they did not think they were going to get to attend camp. Also, I have seen girls that could not afford thier uniforms, pins, and books needed, these things were provided because of Girl Scouts Hornets Nest Council.

I have seen these results this year more than ever...I have seen where a girl wanted to join girl scouts so bad, but the money was just not there, and Girl Scouts Hornets Nest Council, provided the way for this child to become a part of a wonder organization.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I do not have any suggestions for any changes

Girl scouting has been a rewarding experience since I started 3 years ago, thanks to the Girl Scouts Hornets Nest Council. My daughter wanted to become a Daisy girl scout so when we went to sign up I needed to step up and start a new Troop. They explained it all and I was convinced that I would get the help I needed as a new leader. Now we are Brownies and have grown to 12 girls. I have received plenty of training and look forward to learning more. I love that there is training available every year. I look forward to attending retreats with fellow leaders, where I can hear about other troop ideas and other ways of handling cituations that may arise.
The official girl scout web site has plenty of information and ideas for all troops. I like the ease of getting forms when I need them and registering for events at any time. This is a great organization for girls that teaches life skills and compassion. Girls are givin the opportunity to experience subjects that they may never get to. And visit people and places that they may never get to. And learn about helping others, making money and saving money, creating goals and working out our problems. I hope to see my troop grow together into confident and successful young ladies.

We joined the Hornest Council troop 662 in 2008. Being new to the city we really enjoyed our time with troop. Despite moving and changing schools three times we have stayed with troop 662.

I have had such a wonderful experience volunteering for Girl Scouts Hornet's Nest Council! I went in last August, and was immediately and cheerfully greeted and given the information and instruction I needed to start a Girl Scout troop. I was really impressed with the organization - everything I needed for "behind the scenes" was in a notebook already, and the staff was very knowledgable on what it contained - all my questions were answered. They have an amazing support structure, both through staff, who have been completely dedicated to making my troop work and getting back to me quickly any time I need to contact them, and through the organization of volunteers. New leaders are immediately introduced to countless experienced volunteers who have activity ideas and advice on how to work with girls that may need a little extra attention and managing troop accounts. The council offers totes of supplies for specific activities or badges, "pods" to go camping in behind the council, and classes to teach first aid/cpr, firebuilding, and more. Everything you need for a successful troop is here. I knew I was going to enjoy working with the girls and this council - I was a Girl Scout through this council when I was a kid - but I never saw the "working" side of things. I'm sure it's come a long way from 15-20 years ago, but it's just as enjoyable the second time around because of the great support from the council!

I was a Girl Scout through Hornet's Nest Council when I was a kid, and now I'm a leader! As a girl, I made friends I never would have met without scouting, and learned things I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise. Some ideas that I was taught as a kid at home and at school became more tangible and had a better chance to develop - like leadership and responsibility. As a leader, I get to be a part of the same thing for my little Brownies!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Nothing! Well, I'm sure there's something somewhere, but there's not anything bad about the organization constantly nagging at my mind, so it can't be anything too bad - nothing I can think of.
