Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animal-Related, Animals, Equestrian, Sports

Mission: To accelerate the organization's intellectual, social, and economic development through -Continued expansion of the organizations rescue, education and creative efforts; Development and delivery of high-quality equine educational programs; Promotion of cultural and social enrichment through the use of equines; A philosophy of collaboration not just among other organizations but inviting others to partake; Commitment to providing educational opportunities, teaching and encouraging better physical and emotional care of our human and equine companions.

Results: Due to the downturn in the economy we have taken back many of the horses we had adopted out over the years. Unfortunately their "Special Needs" typically finds them less-desirable to the average home. So we have a growing herd of aging horses with special needs. With very specific and dedicated efforts we are managing, spindle cell sarcoma, navicular, and equine metabolic syndrome, just to name a few. The most impressive results of our efforts is when we get to enjoy them frolicking in the field!

Direct beneficiaries per year: The horses

Programs: The organization is dedicated to the prevention of animal cruelty by means of the rescue of 3-5 month old foals (baby horses) from animal slaughter auctions.

I met Mary and Don from For the Love of Horses over 10 years ago.. Just before they brought in there first 13 Premarin rescues. I was surprized and excited by there excitement and dedication to the horses. A year later they ended up rescueing 80 premarin babies! first 40 then another 40. I was amazed and touched by the fact that they gave their whole life and dedication to rescueing these horses. They worked from sun up to after sun down and gave their time, home, finances and physical well being for these horses. Most of them found forever homes. One came home with me and she is the Love of my Life. At about 8 years old my Sadie that I adopted from them became Ill and needed special attention from a speciality vet.. This vet though would not travel as far to my place. So Mary and Don again rescued my little girl and allowed me to bring her to their facility and kept her there for a month and did not ask for a dime to help take care of her during this time.. Happily Sadie is Completely healed and back home. I am very proud of these two people and blessed to have met them, they are truley special and devouted to the well being of horses..

I have supported For the Love of Horses, Inc. since adopting Pilgrims Promise in Nov. 2002. While I cannot consistently donate, and the amount isnt great, I know that it will be put to good use in the care of the horses. There are several PMU mares requiring special hoof care and feed, and Mary provides the very best for them.
