Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Homeless & Housing, Homeless Shelters

Mission: TO PROVIDE SHELTER AND SUPPORT TO FAMILIES AND OUTPATIENTS IN NEED OF TEMPORARY HOUSING DURING MEDICAL TREATMENT AT WRIGHT PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE MEDICAL CENTER

Programs: The fisher / nightingale houses, inc (fnhi) is the nonprofit entity of the wright-patterson air force base fisher houses. When a family has to travel away from home for medical treatment, it is traumatic enough, not to mention compounding the situation with finding a place to stay, the potentially high costs for the place to stay and food, as well as the loneliness of a hotel room. Whether for a few days, a month or even a year, this situation can wear on a family, financially, emotionally and physically. For our servicemen and women and their families, that is where the fisher houses step up to the challenge. In the last 24 years, these houses have served thousands of families from all branches and components (active duty, guard, reserve, retired and veterans) of the military; over 1,110 families in 2014. Guests stay in the fisher houses at no expense; the fnhi raises money to reimburse the air force for the day to day operational expenses. The average length of stay of a family in the house is 11 days. Some guests stay only for a day or two while others stay for several months or more while receiving medical treatment at the wright patterson medical center (wpmc). The wright - patterson fisher houses provide an invaluable service to our military members and their families. Most guests come from a seven state area (ohio, kentucky, west virginia, michigan, indiana, illinois and wisconsin). However, there have been guests from all over the world staying at the fisher houses as the wpmc is the largest medical center in the air force and the largest military medical center in the midwest.

My wife and I have been involved with the Fisher-Nightinale houses for several years. There is an emotional and rewarding feeling with this organization. It is one thing to listen to the news media and another to see these wounded heros who have have served and sacrificed. This is the best way to say we appreciate your service.

I started out as a volunteer about six years ago, and eventually ended up on the Board for two years. This organization is run by selfless volunteers who sincerely want to make a difference for servicemembers and their families in need of medical care at Wright-Patterson Medical Center. This local non-profit meets a great need, and I highly recommend it to anyone who can donate time or money!

I've been involved with Fisher-Nightinale for almost 10 years. I've been a donor and also ran on their race team as part of the Marine Corps Marathon in 2011 to raise money. The organization is very well run and also makes sure to thank me for my donation and educate me on their cause. I am very happy they exist to provide care and support to our troops.

From the leadership to the staff and volunteers, Fisher/Nightingale Houses, Inc. is a truly remarkable, selfless, service-driven organization. i watched first hand how everyone associated puts their hearts and hands to work, from day-to-day operations, through major, annual fundraising events. It's simply inspiring to see this fine organization in action, and the beneficiaries are the patients, and the families and loved ones of the patients, who are treated at the Wright-Patterson AFB Medical Center. They deserve nothing less than the very best, and F/NHI delivers just that!
