Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. Overview
Programs: Education, resources and recognition are the three areas of service that EIC delivers. Our programs are designed to encourage the accurate depiction of health and social issues in entertainment. In the field of education, EIC offers industry briefings and forums to provide accurate depiction ideas to members of the creative community as well as the exploration of health and social issues. EIC also provides PRISM Generation Next Seminars at television and film schools in which guest speakers provide accurate depiction ideas to future members of the creative community. In the area of resources, EIC offers several helpful tools to member of the creative community. First Draft, is a technical assistance hot line which provides technical information on health and social issues to entertainment creators free of charge; Spotlight on.is a science-based resource encyclopedia distributed to entertainment industry professionals. To date EIC has published Spotlight on- Depiction, which educates on addiction and abuse, Spotlight on -Gun Violence details accurate depiction of firearm safety, and most recently, Spotlight on-A New Normal deals with terrorism and depiction; Gun Violence depiction ideas are also made available in a frequent tip sheet series that is e-mailed to members of the creative community. Additional Spotlight On-Newsletters are distributed to the entertainment creative community on a variety of substance abuse and addiction issues, as well as issues such as mental health, sun safety and human trafficking. Profile is EIC's informational newsletter, containing up to date information on health and social issues and the industry's latest depiction efforts, as well as EIC information; All of EIC's resources are available on their website, www,eiconline.org. In the area of recognition, EIC in partnership with The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) hosts the annual PRISM Awards presentation to honor outstanding efforts in the accurate depiction of drug, alcohol and tobacco use and addiction. The annual PRISM Awards serve as positive reinforcement for entertainment creators, encouraging professional competition to give the most accurate and compelling entertainment that addresses important health issues. The PRISM Awards takes a path that no other award show has ever taken, and is premiered each year on Capitol Hill before a bi-partisan Congressional audience. EIC also offers recognition through the EDGE Awards, with support from the Joyce Foundation. The EDGE Awards (Entertainment Depiction of Gun Education) recognize feature films, TV movies, reality programs and episodes of scripted television series that effectively promote firearm safety and discourage gun violence.
In 1983, The Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) was founded by leaders in the entertainment industry to bring the power and influence of the entertainment industry to bear on health and social issues.
