I got to volunteer at the Ellis Memorial, which consisted of doing arts and crafts with these wonderful children and then I got to obverse them open there present from Frosty Friends. This was so special to me, to see the joy and excitement that one extra present the child got to open for the holiday was breathtaking. It's been a year and i still talk about it, I can't wait to participate again this year!! The people who spend there days watching over these kids were so friendly, this is truly a great organization!!!

I began volunteering for Ellis over 12 years ago, and I cannot think of a more rewarding experience! To see the bright, eager faces of the youngsters who are so eager to learn, and who are thus enabled to do so thhrough the Ellis programs, provides a payback that no amount of monetary compensation could ever approach. Thanks to the staff and all of the "Ellis Family" for allowing me this priviledge!!

I have had 2 kids in the Ellis early education program. My son attended from 14 months until he started school this year. My 26 month old daughter has been there since she was 4 months old. Their early education program is fantastic. The way that they combine children from varied culture, economic and family backgrounds in every classroom makes for a very balanced 'real world' environment and enriches the experience of all the children. My daughter is excited about seeing her friends every day, and is always excited about what she has been doing when I pick her up. Both teachers and management are extremely dedicated and caring. Over the years I have seen how Ellis supports families, whether it is a hug from a teacher for a child who is sad when they arrive in the morning, supporting learning difficulties, or helping out a family in need with clothing donations. The staff always go the extra mile to help their 'families' get the most out of their children's early years.

Our son started at Ellis two-days a week to get him interacting with other kids his age. He loved it from the very beginning! His teachers have always been very involved in his development and are very well respected by the kids. Our son has graduated from the Toddler room and began this school year in Preschool 1. We have had nothing but good things to say about the program and his teachers. Ellis is a great hidden secret in the South End. We love that we can walk to school!

through my son. He is much more social and developing his interpersonal skills.

My first daughter began attending Ellis's Toddler I program at age 14months. Since then she has gone on to the Toddler II program and then into their preschool 1 program. In addition, my second daughter started in the infant program at age 3 months. The care is wonderful; the caregivers are warm, friendly and loving and beyond capable. My children both love going each day and I never have to worry about their happiness and welfare, which is a great relief to a parent. In addition, Ellis is located downtown and an affordable option, two important issues in our life since we both work downtown and childcare is so expensive. We love the socio, ethnic and economic diversity in each classroom. It is of great importance to my husband and I that our children grow up without prejudice and instead with a love for all people. Ellis is key in getting that philosophy underway for us. We also donate to the school and I promote it to other parents, to get the word around the Boston area. There should be more resources available like Ellis.

The growth and care of my children. My daughter has learned everything from her abc's to what creatures live in the ocean and can name and speak about the 5 senses with ease. They love it there and, in turn, I do.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would improve the outreach in the community, so that more people know about it and therefore support it. I actually think they are beginning to do more on this end, and it is working. With more parents involved, more support financially and otherwise.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

that my children are happy every day they attend the classes.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

warm, caring, educated, and capable.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

improve the quality of toys/tools. It would help them upgrade to new technology in the preschool room and just completely help to renovate their old premises.

Ways to make it better...

there was a place to park with ease. If there were other parents involved and a parent support group that encouraged play and relationships outside of the classroom.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

getting the word out about their offerings. They have a waitlist but more people do not know about the preschool on up. With good word spreading about those classrooms, more people would enroll and consider it an option.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I am a supporter of their capital campaign which is renovating two beautiful, historical buildings in the South End in Boston. This project will truly make a major difference in our community and expand services to families seeking quality child care and elder care.
