DSFHS, founded by Mary Walsh in 1879, grew out of the need for direct nursing and social services to the poor in their own homes in a neighborhood on the west side of New York City. Mary and her valiant and faith-filled companions worked and lived among the families they taught to care for themselves and prevent illness in the midst of poverty and wretched living conditions. They brought hope and meaning to the lives of people who thought they had lost both.

This is a wonderful nonprofit that happens to also be a wonderful client and appreciative community participant. The Dominican Sisters organization gives time and expertise to other nonprofits as well. They are skilled and professional in their expertise, and well established. They would greatly ... more »
