Disabilities, Human Services
61 Broadway Suite 510 New York NY 10006 USA
"Disabled and Alone" was established as a nonprofit organization in 1988 to meet the compelling need expressed by families with a disabled member (often a child) searching for an answer to the question "Who will look after our handicapped loved one when we're gone?"The program 1)raises awareness about the special needs of the aging disabled population; 2)helps families plan for the future of the disabled person (using the Parents Planning Journal and recording personal, vital, irreplaceable information for future care givers) 3)educates families, human service professionals, attorneys and financial planners about future care planning for a person with a disability 3) provides direct supplementary services of advocacy and care to its disabled members 4)provides a support system for families dealing with the problems associated with disability.
