Address:

369 Montezuma Ave 566 Santa Fe NM 87501 USA

Mission:

Creativity for peace trains young palestinian and israeli women to partner as leaders by breaking down barriers of anger and prejudice, facilitating friendships, and inspiring action to promote peace.

Programs:

Creativity for peace is the only organization simultaneously working with young palestinian and israeli women on collaborative leadership and peacemaking. Since 2003, 239 young women have participated in our program. They are 15-23 year-olds of muslim, christian, jewish and other backgrounds from israel, the west bank, and gaza. The entry point of our work is an intensive summer program in santa fe, new mexico that uses art and dialogue to introduce the story of the "other", foster understanding, friendship, and partnership, teach communication and self-awareness, and encourage advocacy for peace. In 2014, 16 young women attending our summer camp underwent powerful transformations from anger to compassion and pain to hope. Our work continues year-round in israel and palestine with workshops, seminars, small gatherings of girls by language and location, and follow-up meetings for specific camp years. Camper-graduates are expected to participate in our young leader training which takes place for six weekends throughout the year and focuses on the development of emotional and practical skills for leadership and peacemaking. In year two, leaders execute social-change projects of their choosing. More than 60 young women are training as young leaders, giving public talks in the united states and israel/palestine, working as junior counselors in our summer program, and participating as workshop leaders and in other capacities with our organization. Creativity for peace also awards a limited number of academic scholarships to young women in our program who have financial need and demonstrate extraordinary leadership. In 2014 four of our participants studying in ramallah, palestine; cyprus; and eugene, oregon received scholarships. Our programs have had a significant impact on americans as well, educating them about the conflict in the middle east and what they can do to contribute to peace. In 2014 thousands of people learned of our work through some 40 media appearances and talks in schools, universities, churches, synagogues, and community organizations. Young leaders facilitated two workshops on transformation conflict for young american women in new mexico and texas. Approximately 150 people volunteer with our organization year-round. Dozens of businesses and individuals contribute in-kind goods and services. Our young women are influencing others through presentations about their peacemaking work in the army, their communities, and in national and international venues, such as the united nations.

I have been following Creativity for Peace's development for several years and it seems to get stronger and stronger. I have spoken with the Executive Director, board members, and even some of the young Israeli and Palestinian leaders whose lives have been forever transformed by CFP. I am certain that some of these young women will lead their people in the years ahead from a place of deep compassion and understanding of the other side. I especially appreciate CFP's focus on providing resources and continued growth opportunities for these young leaders both when they return to Israel and Palestine and through conducting pilot training programs for young people right here in the United States. I am confident that my contributions are being well spent in advancing the cause of peace!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Grow the organization's impact both in Israel/Palestine and the US.

Creativity For Peace (CFP) utilizes a unique and powerful process to help educate young Israeli and Palestinian women in the art of conflict resolution. During an intensive summer camp experience, the participants develop extensive communication skills built around healthy dialogue, the use of art therapy etc.. These young women develop leadership skills to assist them in their peacemaking efforts when they return to their homes. The summer experience is enhanced by continued opportunities for interaction and dialogue in both Israel and Palestine as well as in the United States.

CFP, a ten year old organization, is blessed with a passionate staff, a committed Board of Directors and effective community support. It maximizes available resources, both financial and personnel, and would have the ability to reach many more young women, and thus their families, friends and neighbors in their home countries, as more financial resources become available.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Expand the financial base of the organization so that the life-changing impact can be extended further.

Creativity for Peace (CFP) focuses on the development of leadership and peacemaking skills for young
women from Israel and Palestine. The reason I support this organization is to raise the emphasis on conflict resolution via communication for Ihealthy dialogue and art therapy for a minimal of 14 young women in an Intensive workshop experience each summer on the outskirts of Santa Fe. These young women are changed by their experiences with the "other" which enables them to move forward with leadership in peacemaking in their lives and in their home countries. It is my personal privilege to serve these young women with opportunities in leadership and peacemaking in their home countries.

They subsequently have the opportunity to join into Young Leader Programs in I/P and make a difference in their personal and collective lives and effect change as Young Leaders for Creativity for Peace.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Enable more young women to attend Santa Fe immersion prohram and to submit their credentials to be a Young Leader of CFP in Leadership and Creativity In their home countries.

I have donated to this organization for about 3 or 4 years, having met many of the US and international staff, along with the young peacemakers and Young Leaders. This organization goes a long way to make every penny count, while dramatically improving the prospects for peace in our lifetime, in the Middle East. I am grateful that they do work year-round with over 100 young women in the Israel and Palestine, working to support the courageous efforts these young women are making to improve their world, when their world would prefer the status quo of war and bias.

In the US, this organization does public outreach in other cities, including Dallas, Philadelphia, New York and Portland OR.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

scale up the program to make use of the talents, knowledge and passion of the Young Leaders to help our US high school age girls learn that they can find and lead the way toward peace in their communities, negating community biases around racism, classism, gender limits, etc. Fortunately, Creativity for Peace is taking steps in that direction.
