As a local gerontoogy columnist in Santa Clara County, I am always looking for organizations who strive to make a difference in the lives of seniors and their caregivers. In doing so, I discovered Council on Aging Silicon Valley. The most interesting and innovative part about COASV is that they have created a 'one-stop' comprehensive system of community resources. They have been successful in overcoming the multiple point entry system or piece meal approach to helping seniors and their caregivers which is often frustrating a feels like a wild-goose-chase. I wanted to include a link to my finished column for all of you to enjoy (I hope it works). Copy and paste into your browser. http://gilroydispatch.com/lifestyles/242193-are-you-a-senior-in-need-of-assistance-call-coasv
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Many many ways - from their Generational Resource Center (GRC), a 'conference room on wheels' which is present at Health Fairs and is available to local businesses to have on-site training and information available to their employees. They also offer a comprehensive Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) to their Predatory Lending Program which has taken senior finacial scammers all the way to the D.A.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Learning more about them and educating the public about their services! I won't promote anything I don't believe in!
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
CHANGE SANTA CLARA COUNTY FOREVER...Help prevent premature institutionalization for so many seniors while decreasing family caregivers' stress levels and helping them attain a healthy work-life balance. Offer solutions to the 21st century crisis which includes Baby Boomers outnumbering their caregivers at a ratio of 3:1.
