Mission: To increase the delivery of legal services to clients of low and moderate income while promoting a statewide network of solo, small firm and community based lawyers who share a common commitment to increasing access to justice through traditional and non-traditional means.
Programs: The organization provided direct legal representation on behalf of low and moderate income individuals, primarily in cases involving foreclosure, debt collection and other consumer matters. It assisted numerous individuals facing foreclosure through its low bono mediation and other foreclosure prevention programs. In addition, it increased access to justice by training and mentoring a network of private attorneys and providing referrals to low and moderate income marylanders who need free or reduced fee legal assistance.
The lawyers at Civil Justice and their network members have made such a difference in my life. No one would take my case, much less listen to my story. I was able to get connected to a great attorney named Bill Blackford who compassionately listened and helped me through a very difficult time while reducing his fee. I cannot commend him or the organization more highly.
