The City Island Theater Group has been providing stage entertainment to our community for the past 10 years. The production company is comprised of a dedicated and talented group of actors, directors, set designers, costume designers, prop masters and stage hands, largely from within the community itself. The quality and span of their productions has grown over the years to reach rousing applause, bringing even more of the community into their fold. My husband and I are happy subscribers and look forward to more of their productions in the years to come.

On a rainy Saturday in March 2008, I wandered into CITG to audition for the role of Charlotte Hay in “Moon Over Buffalo”. I was expertly auditioned and sent on my way in less than one hour. A few days later, I received a call telling me that I had been cast in the role of my choice. What impressed me was the efficient use of my time and the fact that there were no “conditions” (e.g., you have to join our group and pay annual dues if you get cast and/or you have to work a certain amount of hours helping to erect the set, strike the set and attend to publicity chores, etc.) involved in accepting the role. It was refreshing to know that all they expected from me was a firm commitment as an actress to do my very best. The group has an amazing technical/administrative staff, who are core members and do what they do for the sheer love of theater. If they need help from the actors for anything, they ask that we help on designated dates – if possible. Who can say “no” to that? Besides, because this group really knows how to party, they make those sessions fun! The rehearsal period, from the table reading, at which I met the cast, through tech week was efficiently coordinated. We were promptly given our rehearsal schedules and each rehearsal was conducted in a manner that made maximum use of time. The direction was expert, imaginative and clear which resulted in an almost immediate cast bonding and a high quality production. So, needless to say “Moon Over Buffalo” was a huge success and a most pleasant experience for me. I am now officially a group member. It is a joy to be in the company of CITG members, whether it be in the capacity of performer, audience member or just plain party goer! CITG has become family to me. Camille Kaiser

I am an actor always looking to work with talented, dependable and enthusiastic people. I was lucky enough to come out for one of their auditions and landed in their festival of one acts. I found they were a well oiled machine (not all community theatres are). They have people who have been with them for years. They are great at filling audience seats - It seemed to be a full house for all shows. I hope to work with them again and certainly to go see their shows

Wow - they could get a space of their own - where you would be free to rehearse when needed - they would be able to get rights to whatever shows they would like to put up. They would be able to do a lot for the community ie - free shows, classes for kids

Ways to make it better...

they need a little more space for rehearsal time

City Island Theater Group is a very professional community theater group. They are proof that with dedication and attention to the craft of theater small theater groups can put on great shows. Their performances of The Rainmaker, Rumors and currently Wait Until Dark are entertaining and as well directed and acted as any local theater group and better than most.
