Mission: B9 Plastics is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to social and environmental improvements through the use of plastics. By providing inexpensive solutions which involve water treatment, human generated power, those lacking consistent power, and beneficial uses of commingled plastic, B9 Plastics is able to address the immediate needs of the world's most vulnerable.
Results: B9 Plastics has distributed over 90 Better Water Makers to 18 developing countries worldwide, providing over 13 million gallons of safe, potable water to hundreds of people in need. Along with developing the Better Water Maker and preparing for large scale distribution, B9 Plastics is creating additional products that can be used in conjunction with the Better Water Maker. We regularly collaborate with local universities and businesses, gaining perspective as we pursue new opportunities, and further develop existing ones.
Target demographics: Developing Countries
Direct beneficiaries per year: Better Water for Women provides women in developing countries with employment opportunities by granting a stipend and start-up plan for investment in, and creation of a sustainable business using the Better Water Maker (BWM). Better Water for Children is a community-based program that seeks to raise awareness and funds to provide schools and orphanages in developing countries with Better Water Makers, which utilize UV light to kill water microbes, resulting in potable, drinkable water. We believe that everyone deserves access to clean, safe water. Unlike chemical water treatments, the Better Water Maker can safely produce as much or little water as needed for a number of places throughout a community, such as hospitals, businesses, and private homes. Use of the Better Water Maker is environmentally benign; the source of energy is human power and there are no waste products, which makes it ideal for community use.

We have developed a partner for our Better Water Maker. This is a cart that when pulled generates power, stored in a battery for later use in powering the Better Water Maker. This cart will also alleviate the enormous physical strain that is typically endured in carrying water from it's source, back to the home.

I had the privilege to travel to Africa on behalf of B9 Plastics and to observe their work with the Better Water Maker. It was amazing. In both Kenya and Rwanda, the device is well received, used and appreciated. It will be an amazing day to see the Better Water Maker in full production and distribution. It has helped thousands already and will soon be able to help so many more. It is also exciting to think about the possibilities of the additional products that B9 Plastics has developed and the continued benefit they will offer to those most in need. What a truly thoughtful and generous organization.
