Mission: Arogya, inc. Founded in 2010, is a global health not-for-profit organization working to prevent non-communicable diseases (ncds) through health education and lifestyle changes. The organization strives to achieve its mission of changing the course of chronic diseases by focusing on partnerships and innovative technology and by implementing scalable and sustainable programs with measurable impact.
Programs: 10,000 global women's ncd impact survey: arogya inc. Led an important 10,000 global women's ncd impact survey and fulfilled a clinton global initiative commitment made in 2013. Preliminary results were presented at a multi-stakeholder gathering at the united nations on july 11, 2014. The full quantitative report, which includes rich data on the impact of ncds on women's everyday lives, was released september 23, 2014 and is being shared with thought-leaders and policy makers to move governments into action. Videos and infographics were also produced to highlight the impact of ncds on women and their families.
mhealth programs: the organization's innovative mdiabetes (mhealth 1. 0) program was successful in helping approximately 150,000 indians lead healthier lives. The organization is now working on the next phase, mhealth 2. 0, with a major grant support from the cigna foundation and is developing a mobile app called myarogya, which is designed as a one-stop shop for chronic disease prevention for working indians. In addition to diabetes, the app also focuses on heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease awareness and prevention and has food and activity trackers to help consumers on their health journey.
healthy workplaces program: this is a 2013 clinton global initiative commitment from arogya world. Through our pioneering healthy workplace efforts in india, arogya world is making a sound investment in public health and global development. We are working to get 100 companies in india to join our program and earn recognition as healthy workplaces by 2016, helping one million working indians lead healthy lives. By the end of 2014, 27 companies in india had become healthy workplaces.
1) ncd global advocacy and awareness program: arogya world has gained increasing recognition and credibility in the ncd global community. Our 10,000 women's global women's ncd burden impact survey results was presented at the united nations side event and is being shared with thought-leaders and policy makers to move governments into action. (see above for further information). Arogya world was named as a finalist for the peter f. Drucker award for nonprofit innovation. In addition, arogya's ceo was invited to speak at various conferences. Arogya world continues to provide education information and timely news on ncd developments via its blogs, op eds on its website and other digital communication forums and social media. 2) healthy schools education program: following our successful pilot of educating 2,000 middle school children in delhi, our healthy schools program was adapted to rural south india with agastya international foundation. This 2-year program is designed to teach middle school children the basics of healthy eating and physical activity, with the goal of preventing diabetes we are working with agastya's young instructional leaders, training them to deliver the program to their classmates. In march 2014, arogya world also made a commitment to the united nations' every woman every child initiative, an unprecedented effort to improve the health of women and children everywhere by educating 10,000 11-13 year old school children about diabetes prevention through lifestyle change, over the next 5 years.
