Nonprofit Overview

Causes: International, International Development, Philanthropy, Philanthropy, Charity & Voluntarism Promotion

Mission: American Service to India was founded to provide much-needed assistance to the poor and needy of India, primarily in the areas of health and education. It has sought to accomplish this through a variety of programs that address immediate needs as well as others that provide assistance over the long term. These programs have included the funding of projects which ASTI's Board feels most adequately meets those needs. In all cases, the main emphasis of ASTI is to relieve the suffering of the poor of India as much as possible within the restrictions of its financial resources, the vast majority of which are funded by donations from individuals and/or organizations in sympathy with ASTI's goals.

We have been donating to ASTI for a few years and have been very satisfied with the support they give to a range of non-profit organizations in India, small and medium size mostly, concerned with education, women's causes and children of under privileged or neglected sections within India. They have a very low overhead and staffed with a dedicated group of volunteers who seem to be doing excellent oversight of the groups they do support to assure proper use of the funds given. We expect to continue our annual support to ASTI and encourage others looking for good non-profits to explore this organization for their potential. Shankar and Malathi Narayan

I have supported causes for educating girls in India through ASTI. I found ASTI to be very responsive and the organizations they work with in India very reputable.

The American Service to India Foundation plays a significant role in furthering the medical and educational related needs in India. Besides that their primary focus has been the empowerment of women who are the central tenets of a society and who, when empowered can make the significant changes necessary in a developing economy. I have consistently chosen to disseminate funds through ASTI because of their close relationship with the Ramakrishna math and Mission centers in India - the most giving, compassionate and efficient organization, founded on Swami Vivekananda's vision of "service to man as worship of God" ideal. I am always confident that every cent of donated funds is being disseminated to the right cause and person.
