I am a United Hatzalah volunteer and proud of it. United Hatzalah not only provides us with the training, equipment and supplies that we need to save lives, they provide us with the sense of mission, camaraderie and encouragement that is so important in this type of work. Nothing can compare with the feeling of awe and exhiliration that comes from helping deliver a baby or the sense of relief and satisfaction when you help restart a persons heart. However the trauma of seeing people young and old that we can not help along with the challenges of being on-call 24/7/365 coupled with the drain of dealing with false alarms, drunks and inconsiderate people can really be quite a challenge. United Hatzalah provides us with the framework to succeed, thrive and continue to help saving lives in Israel. What can be better than that!

My own 19 year-old daughter recently fell off a roof and broke one of the vertebrae in her back. As a medic I was first on the scene but as a father I was deeply worried. Seeing the other guys in the area responding to my call for help was amazing.

My daughter and I were walking in the German Colony, in Jerusalem, when we heard a small crash of metal and an out cry from and elderly pedestrian. Within 1 minute of our call to Hatzalah a volunteer appeared to give immediate care to the lady who had stumbled and fallen with her walker. By the time the ambulance arrived, some 5 or 6 minutes later, she needed only transport to the hospital. The 87 yr. old voiced concern regarding the food she had left simmering on the stove. When the Hatzalah volunteer asked her who he might call to check the stove she replied she was alone and had no one to call for help. The volunteer offered to go while the MDA people prepared her for transport to the hospital.
