Location: 17050 Midwood Drive Granada Hills CA 91344 USA

Mission: As one of the most innovative non-profit composer service organizations in Los Angeles, ACF-LA is dedicated to supporting composers and the advancement of new musical works in Southern California. Its mission is to provide Southern Californian composers, at all stages of their careers, with valuable resources for professional and artistic development. ACF-LA provides composers new opportunities to perform for audiences in communities where cultural events are rare, and engage audiences in the creation, performance, and enjoyment of their music. By combining communities with composers, the Forum helps develop the next generation of composers, musicians, and performers alike. To this end, ACF-LA has a long history of seeking venues in underprivileged areas, and locating composers of artistic merit and cultural diversity who will most easily engage these communities.
Programs: Making Music in the Schools is a six-year old outreach program that impacts approximately 200 Los Angeles middle- high school students each year. On average, Making Music in the Schools conducts music workshops at four different schools, with two hour workshops twice a week, over a ten week period. Students of these communities usually experience their first opportunity to compose music with the instruction and guidance of professional music composer. During the program student learn basic fundamentals of composing all types of music from small ensemble, symphonic orchestra, film and opera house, to modern pop, jazz, and rock.

ACF LA has been a very valuable resource for me as a composer. It creates a community around new music which is a very challenging goal, especially in a place like Los Angeles. There are so many composers in this city but very few organizations that are devoted to concert music, experimental music, chamber music, etc. The ACF has been essential to me personally because I have gotten two generous grants with quick turnaround that enabled me to realize two projects that have become major assets in my career as a composer.

ACF/LA has been an indispensible part of my life as a composer and musician working in California, both in LA and elsewhere - it has at various times supported salons, workshops, grants and grant making ideas and proposals, and many situations to help with networking and to supporting the work of composers throughout Los Angeles. I urge you to continue to support this terrific organization, and am happy to give it any support that I can - Michael Roth

As a musician who is relatively new to working within the realm of new chamber music, ACF-LA has already proven very helpful at connecting me with other composers and ensembles in my local area and allowing me to learn from them. I look forward to seeing how they expand in coming years.
