The mission of the advocates for indigenous california language survival is to foster the restoration and revival of indigenous california languages so that they may be retained as a permanent part of the living cultures of native california.

Programs:

Master apprentice language learning program (map)elder fluent speakers team up with younger adult apprentices to engage in 10-20 hours per week of activities using their language together. During the program year the teams attend intensive trainings in immersion-style methods of language learning and teaching.

chasing voices a documentary project that the advocates is fiscally sponsoring, about linguist, j. P. Harrington. Harrington was a brilliant linguist and a very idiosyncratic personality. His notes and tapes are the basis for most of the indigenous language revitalization in this country.
