It’s the home stretch for donors to make tax deductible charitable gifts in 2014.  To help donors choose wisely during this season of giving, some websites focus on overhead costs to judge a nonprofits’ effectiveness. But contrary to popular belief, overhead costs don’t tell the whole story. “Don’t ask if a charity has low overhead.  Ask if it has big impact,” according to entrepreneur and author Dan Pallota. The World Of Corporate Giving Has Changed

Did you know that:

  • Less than 6% of the $320 Billion that is donated annually to North American charities is done online.
  • Less than 5% of that amount comes from corporations.
  • 70% of employees are not engaged in their jobs – and 25% are actively disengaged.

These are all statistics that Benevity, a software social enterprise that helps companies engage their customers and employees through giving back, hopes to change.  And they highlight issues that corporate social good efforts, like employee giving and volunteering programs, are evolving to address. “Doing well by doing” good is more than just a tagline; it’s a business imperative. Corporate Matching Gift Programs Non-profits & Charities - Billions unused every year

With only a few more weeks before the end of 2012, we encourage people who will donate this year to take advantage of the billions of dollars in employer matching funds that get left on the table each year.

At least $10 billion in workplace matching funds go unclaimed each year; often, corporate employees do not even know about the opportunity for their employer to match their charitable gifts. In response, we’ve released the 2012 List of Top 100 Corporate Giving Programs.  People can look up their company to see if their donations will be matched.
