Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: Spread the message of early detection as a Virtual Volunteer by participating online and encouraging friends to do so as well:
• Like NBCF’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/nationalbreastcancer
• Follow @NBCF on Twitter and Re-Tweet us.
• Sign-up for your Early Detection Plan (EDP). The EDP helps remind women to schedule mammograms, clinical breast exams, and breast self-exams. Learn more at: www.EarlyDetectionPlan.org
Geographic areas served: Throughout the United States
Facilities within the NMP continue to report that because of grant funding from NBCF, they are able to help women in their areas that did not qualify for state or local funds to access mammography services. Any life that is saved is an example of the success of the program.
Based on findings about how breast cancer initiation cells can resist drug treatment, researchers are now developing clinical trials to suppress breast cancer initiation cells.
Researchers have found that gene therapy delivered directly to a particularly stubborn type of breast cancer cell caused the cell to self-destruct, lowered the chance of recurrence, and helped increase the effectiveness of some types of chemotherapy.
