GreatNonprofits Cancer Fighters Awards
What are the Cancer Fighters Awards?
There are many great organizations fighting the war on cancer. GreatNonprofits and Guidestar want to hear from YOU about YOUR experience—how are these organizations doing? Which ones are great? Which ones need some improvement? Your opinions of organizations you've been involved with will raise the visibility of the nonprofits that are really making a difference, help them get more resources and support, and bring us that much closer to beating cancer. So post your reviews and become a part of the Cancer Fighters Awards 2009!
Who is eligible?
Anyone who has had personal experience with a nonprofit organization that serves the cancer community is encouraged to post reviews. Paid employees are not allowed to post a review for that organization. There are no age minimums or limits and no strict definition of "experience." We urge volunteers, board members, donors, even clients served to tell their stories and give these organizations a chance to win the GreatNonprofits Cancer Fighters Awards 2009.
How do I participate?
- Register on GreatNonprofits by clicking "register" on the top right of the page..
- Once logged in, search for the organization you'd like to review by typing the name into the nonprofit finder window (you can specify location by choosing a metropolitan area from the drop-down menu) and clicking "go." Click into the nonprofit's profile and click "Write a Review" at the top left of the profile.
- 1.Give the organization a 1-5 star rating. Tell your story in the empty text box. Explain your role with the organization, choose "yes" from the Cancer Fighters Awards drop down, and indicate when you were involved with the nonprofit. Click "next."
- Answer at least one question from each of the columns- these are meant to give a clear, constructive picture of your experience. Click "Post."
- Add a picture of your experience if you have one.
- You're all set! Thanks for participating in the Cancer Fighters Awards, and stay tuned to find out the winning organizations.
Can I post more than one review?
You may post reviews for as many organizations as you've been involved with- the more the better, and the better your chances of winning a prize. But each person is only allowed to post one review per organization.
I work for a cancer nonprofit. How can I help my organization win the Cancer Fighters Awards?
GreatNonprofits urges organizations to take an active role in gathering reviews. Feel free to publicize the contest to your constituents- send emails, post it to your website, include it in newsletters... these are all people who are passionate about your work and would love to post reviews!
Do I have to pay?
GreatNonprofits and the Cancer Fighters Awards are completely free. We will never ask organizations or individuals to pay for this resource.
What is the deadline?
- All reviews must be posted by 11:59pm PST on July 31st in order to be counted for the contest.
What can I win?

How is it judged?
GreatNonprofits does not do any subjective judging of nonprofit organizations. That is YOUR job. The cancer organizations will be divided into three categories based on budget size: small (<$250K budget), medium ($250K-$1M), and large (>$1M). Winners will also be chosen from five geographic regions: West, Southwest, Northeast, Southeast, and Midwest. The organization with the most positive reviews in each of those categories will be declared a winner.
The individuals who post reviews of the winning organizations will be entered into a random drawing to win a number of great prizes. Winners will be notified by August 3rd, 2009.
