Richmond Nonprofits and Charities

This park(s) in Richmond is gorgeous, but the nonprofit running it is another story. Staff can be friendly one day and flat-out cold to local kids the next. The switch flips instantly whenever donors, media, or outsiders show up, suddenly it’s smiles, hugs, and “community” for the camera. There’s a heavy white-savior vibe here, with Black and Brown kids used to sell the narrative. The most off-putting example: they had local kids serving their wealthy donors at an event. How no one questioned that is beyond me. Something about this place just feels off. Great façade, great sales pitch, but the everyday reality doesn’t match the story they’re selling.

YES is an amazing welcoming space! Since my Boys have joined YES they have went mountain biking, camping, done water conservation contributed to our neighborhood community garden project and most all made lasting memories in nature!!<br>The staff treat my boys like family! I could not be more happy with this invaluable program for Richmond youth!

I have been volunteering with House Rabbit Society since 2022, back when I started fostering rescue bunnies with them. From our first conversation, they made it so easy for me to learn about foster rabbit care and have made the fostering process so accessible with their resources and helpful staff. You can tell that they are really looking to lower barriers for people who are new to rabbit care through their seminars, supplies, and community outreach! <br> <br>Since then, I've been helping as a volunteer onsite, taking on tasks from cleaning to Hop Shop management to foster/adoption matchmaking. HRS is great about offering learning opportunities to their volunteers all while having a little fun along the way. It's brought me such joy to help people that come to the shelter looking for some bunny love! <br> <br>Overall, it has been an absolute pleasure volunteering with House Rabbit Society, and I am so proud to be a volunteer with them!

The RYSE center has been providing such great community events and spaces for the community to attend. They have fun and safe events especially for the youth. Please continue to provide all of the wonderful things y'all have been doing!

BARM has been working very hard in making sure shelter is provided to the community. I really appreciate the detailed explanations on the policies and procedures for shelter and life transformation program folks to ensure they are successful during their stay. Thank you to all of the donors for providing nice decor for the shelter to make it feel more at home. Shout-out to BARM's children's ministry and Community Education Partnership (CEP) team that works directly with the youth living at the shelter in making sure the kids have academic enrichment, fun, and a safe space! Thank you to the children's ministry and CEP for all of the activities and events and school enrollment navigation for our kiddos!

SCAM!! Beware this company. They will NOT give you credit for large purchases made on AliExpress or DHgate. We tried several times, followed all guidelines, and lost thousands of dollars. They say it's the merchant, but their app says ALL purchases. Now they won't even respond. Hopefully we can save others from this.

My store is in Pleasant Hill Ca, Six years ago I allowed them to placed a bin in front of my store and now that I am trying to remove it, they don't answer or return my calls. I've been trying to get a hold of them for more than one year with no response. Since I had these recycle boxes, my parking lot is always dirty from all the stuff people leave , homeless people come in at night and just make a mess. All businesses should be aware of this company business practice before giving them permission to place their bin on your property.

Hi I am a Wanda alumi, and I cant tell you enough about how many doors Wanda has opened for me. As a single mom , this program gave me tools to help me become self sufficient. Tools I use everyday. Encouragement and love was felt everytime I attended a seminar. These ladies are wonderful. Thank you for helping me become a better me !

Horrible leadership from an employee’s point of view. I was there from Feb 2017 until August 2017 and never in my life have I ever felt so degraded and disrespected. Leadership was aware their employees were being degraded, disrespected, and downright lied on while having the tamerity to even admit such. I was instructed to keep leadership apprised so they could back me up. I was required to send emails everytime I left my desk, including trips to the restroom and to lunch to prove my whereabouts. I had to take pictures of my work attire every morning at my desk to prove I was within regulations and to keep FPS personnel from being able to lie on me. I sent those emails in blindcopy as well as pictures to the CEO and he assured me he would back me up. Instead of showing support and having our backs, they chose to protect their contract with FPS, look the other way and terminate me and at least one other for no reason. He literally apologized to me for the situation while terminating me. I don’t know how you can, straight up, admit your employee did nothing wrong but then be perfectly fine with firing them anyway. Complete lack of respect and regard for my life and my family’s life. I’m just glad I didn’t really need that job and found something else relatively quickly afterwards. I would urge anyone who decides to seek employment here to always be looking for another job and watch your back. Save all emails and keep accurate notes.

Bee Holistic is the best Cat rescue group I've found. I remember a poor cat Bee Holistic rescued and named him Cecil. He was in horrible physical shape, literally near death. Bee Holistic rescued him and brought him back to health, through repeated and expensive vet visits. The cost of his medical expenses must have been a hardship on Bee Holistic, yet they continued to get him the medical attention he needed.<br>I totally respect the work Bee Holistic does and would recommend them to all.

We met Nikita Jew years ago my now 10year old had to have been 3 years old .She was teaching a ballet class which was being filmed and,used as a promotional video. My daughter was so impressed she had me hang around so we could ask about classes with “teacher Niki “. That year we ran into Niki several times and my daughter would always yell through the crowd “ teacher Niki”which would be followed by when could she take her class. We never got the opportunity to take another class with her but, she left a lasting impression on my daughter. I decided to show my daughter the picture of Nikita the name has long escaped her but,the memory hasn’t . With a big smile and the same bashfulness she had when we would run into Nikita she said”she’s my teacher from the Y”. I’m not surprised that she was chosen as a spotlight staff member she is truly an amazing woman.

I would never recommend this place to anyone, unless you want your heart broken. I was supposed to go down there on a Sunday with my husband. They called me Sat night and said they would actually make a time on Monday for them to come see me. I live in El Dorado Hills, about 1 1/2 hours away. Monday came around and no call. Tuesday they called and said they would figure out a date by the end of the week. Thursday rolls around and now its a must that they meet my husband who stays out of town 5 days a week before we can go any further. They called him and had a conversation instead. Then I am informed that I must provide proof of my HOA rules. I texted her a pic of the damn rule book itself. Furthermore, she stated the dog had an appt after some hair loss issues were occurring. This whole time I am anxiously getting my house ready for this dog, who she says is mine to adopt. She tells me she will get back at me on Friday for sure with a date and time that they can make it up to my house. Well Sunday rolls around and then I am told its not going to happen and that they found someone closer to the business and so they are just going to go with them.<br>I was devastated to say the least. Who are they to play with emotions like that? Very upset with the whole thing

Urban Tilth is a great organization that brings gardens into communities in Richmond, CA and North Richmond, a low-income unincorporated area of Contra Costa County. Urban Tilth also has gardens located at a number of West Contra Costa Unified School District's schools that students and members of the surrounding community help to grow. Karrim Abdul Muhammad, Incorporated is doing a wonderful job in promoting religious unity in all communities. I am a Christian and was inspired to see unity amongst Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, even Atheists at the KAM, Inc.'s COMMON-UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY EVENT IN PHILADELPHIA. MINISTER ALIF, IS HELPING THE GENERAL PUBLIC UNDERSTAND THE HOLY BIBLE AND THE HOLY QUR'AN IN A WAY THAT IS UNIQUE AND NECESSARY. I THANK GOD FOR KAM, INC. IN THIS AGE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND MEGA CHURCHES, THE LITTLE ORGANIZATIONS THAT DO THE BIGGEST WORKS ARE OFTEN DOUBTED AND UNDERESTIMATED.

However, nothing you have posted relates to the concerns raised in my review, and as I informed you in detail shortly after you posted this, you are wrong on most of your facts. It is difficult for me to just withdraw from the conversation while there is this level of misinformation posted at Guidestar. <br> In a nutshell, many people shared the vision of the San Francisco Chocolate Company providing permanent employment for our consumers and an ongoing source of revenue for our mission. One of the most enthusiastic was John Visbal, who was the point man for negotiations with its management and my most trusted advisor on it. I continued to trust in his integrity until I saw the documentary evidence that he had repeatedly lied to me and about me. At the time Visbal engineered my termination CAF was not financially 'broken', and your memory of 'family members donating millions of dollars' just demonstrates how far his stories diverged from the truth. I am writing about it. <br> Far from feeling ashamed, I am proud of my twenty-five year commitment to CAF, and can only hope that new leadership will restore its historic commitment to transparency and integrity.

lifeskills 411 is an awesome non-profit organization. It instills positive attributes into youth in ways typical educational institutes cannot. I can personally attest that all the youth I've seen who have been through the programs offered through LS411 have achieved success in some way or another--whether it's to achieve dreams of becoming an accountant, a psychologists, or a hair stylist--you name it, the diversity (in gender, race, and even each student's definition of success) is what propels and fosters an even greater environment for change for the better and success!

Used SHARE when I was freshly divorced with a small child. I loved the feature that they required volunteer work, which we had been doing anyway. At the distributions, we went early to help load the boxes. My five year old was able to be the "box getter," bringing empty cardboard boxes as the other volunteers needed more. It was a fun group activity, and she was impressed with how fast the group got all the boxes ready to go working together. <br>She still has a good work ethic. <br>The meat selections were kind of nasty (hence four stars) but the vegetarian pack was good. <br>When my daughter got older, we went to the warehouse to pack bags. "Okay now, we're doing oranges, put six in each bag, now the potatoes are coming..." At the warehouse, nice church ladies served hot soup or chili to the volunteers and it was a nice (cheap) social experience for us.

This organization is nothing but a scam. Stay away and avoid. I can't believe they are using poor cancer patients for funneling money to Iran for their own terrorist activities and agendas.

There just aren't enough great non-profits like the Watershed Project out there anymore. It's a good, community-based, education-focused group of caring and knowledgeable people trying to clean up and their home. Linda Hunter, the executive director is a creative and passionate individual who has steer the organization with a steady hand and today the organization is flourishing. I'm proud to be on board and can't wait to see what the future holds!

It is out of pure love for the trade that the Founder wants to share his gift to help others be successfull boat builders. It is from his own experience and observing newcomers that he has deep understanding of the problems, which motivates his resolute efforts to implement solutions.
