As a current member of the Board of Directors, serving Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary has truly been the honor of a lifetime. My involvement here is hands-down one of the most fulfilling volunteer experiences I have ever had. This organization provides an essential, life-saving service: stepping in for the abused and neglected farm animals who need it most. The heart of Happy Trails lies with the wonderful humans who power its mission. From the dedicated staff and tireless volunteers to the compassionate donors, everyone involved works tirelessly to ensure every animal is treated with dignity and love.

This is a worthy organization giving scholarships to high school students who plan to become teachers and also giving grants to classroom teachers with innovative projects. The staff is all volunteer, and the overhead is very low (postage and meals for award winners).

It’s a shame that companies taking advantage of disabled people are allowed to prosper. I went to Access to Independence in December, 2015. I needed new batteries for my power chair. They told us we would have to deal with the insurance company because they had been burned in the past. I needed the batteries, so we proceeded. The charge was $915. I have 2 insurance companies, Anthem and Medicare. I processed the paperwork. I was surprised when the Anthem paperwork came through. The allowable charges were only$651.70. I contacted Access to Independence and told them they were only allowed to charge $651.70 and they owed me $236.30. I sent this via email. The manager called my wife and had her in tears. He said the higher price was the cash price and since I didn’t have a prescription I didn’t get the lower price. So they lied in December and now they have changed their story. Had they said this in December, my doctor would have provided whatever they wanted. I offer to provide them a prescription after the fact, but now they’re not even answering my email. Anthem processed my reimbursement without a prescription. Medicare processed my reimbursement without a prescription. So these crooks got their money up front, I did the insurance paperwork, I waited 3 months for a check and they want to charge more? I should get a discount. Obama should have gone after the medical providers, not the insurance companies. What a rip-off. We also checked out their lift chairs. They are about double the price of Sam’s Club. Save some money, shop elsewhere.

I am a long time volunteer with the Portage Animal Protective League. The PAPL has been helping animals for the past 50 years and they have been very good at using both material and financial donations, and working with volunteers until about three years ago. They now hoard and then sell donations, cancel very well supported fund raising events, have a very poor volunteer program and no longer participate in local major community functions. They recently threw away thousands of dollars worth of donated food/treats due to it going bad and being extremely past its expiration date, there was also an infestation of rodents and insects causing damage to non food donations which were also discarded. Staff are not allowed to use any donations for the PAPL animals without have permission from the management. Staff members who have been there for years are leaving, the remaining ones are treated like they are incarcerated. <br> The management and people in position of authority have no respect for volunteers or fellow staff members and if a problem is brought to the managment or Executive Directors attention you are told it is not your place to say anything or you are ignored and nothing becomes of it. If you speak to a board member about your concerns the Executive Director chastises you, a volunteer, and states that she is the only one who decides what the board of directors needs to know. They also feel that as a volunteer or employee you have no right to tell people in the community, the ones supporting this organization with their time and resources, what is going on and your personal experience with the PAPL. Many volunteers have left and have gone to other organizations. Their volunteer program is basically non existant. <br> In the past three years (2010, 2011, 2012)( 2013 documents are not yet available as of 11/2013) their revenue from donations are down by tens of thousands of dollars even though similar organizations within a 5 county area have maintained their revenue and support from previous years. Unfortunately the PAPL has alienated many of their supporters, private individuals, commercial businesses, and other non profits, due to their mismanagement of donations, refusal to participate in major community functions and their attitude toward people in the community. <br>Edited 1-1-2015 : The 2013 financial statement for this orginazation is FINALLY available, one year after the end of 2013. I am extremely disappointed that it took so long for them to file this statement. Why would anyone want to financially support an organization that isn't forth coming with their financial documentation in a timely manner? <br> <br>

He contracted me to mow his cemetery. He told me several times he put the check in the mail and I never got the check. Ignored my phone calls, but the coward TEXTED me back, real professional. Taking him to court. Dishonest and shady. If he treats contractors like that, it shows what kind of integrity he has to his clients and their families....BEWARE
