OCC and Julie and all their volunteers are the absolute greatest. From giving deployed troops a piece of home to giving veterans at home quality time with family, they go above and beyond. I've had the pleasure of helping pack care packages and receive 100% FREE tickets to various events to take my family. They all know how much we love them. Thanks Julie!

After researching DV resources for an individual, one being in their 90s, I encourage the care taker to go to the office in person with the elderly victim Week of 10/26/25, 4pm. (Office closes at 5pm) The 90 year old victim and care taker tried to enter and the employee stood guard at the door saying what do you want in a very off putting manner. The victim is wearing a cast because of the DV situation still needing to process the events, and ongoing events l. The employee doesn't allow the victim to enter and sit down like a humanbeing, but continues to look them up and down like why are you here. She precedes to talk about "the neighborhood " as that is any reason for her rude behavior. Don't be in that community if you're scared of the community, and don't re- traumatized people who are seeking help. Whatever they post online is just for show, because their employee clearly doesn't practice customer service in real life.

I started volunteering at IBR-LA January 2022. I learned very quickly that I became a member of an organization very similar to the units I served with while in the military. That is, IBR staff and volunteers are loyal, dedicated, and committed not only to each other but to the IBR mission. The diverse group of individuals, from all walks of life, are a joy to work with each day. I hope to remain a volunteer at IBR for many years to come.

Grassroots Healthcare Foundation is like a family, a healthy one. Many of us treated here haven't had the best experiences with our biological families or faith communities; Grassroots is different. When I was in a vulnerable place, I was treated with compassion and competence as the the volunteers and healthcare workers genuinely cared for me and took the time to understand my situation and intervene wisely. <br> <br>One sad reality is that others don't always have your best interest at heart. Still, we need healthy relationships. Instead of taking advantage of or neglecting me, Grassroots Healthcare Foundation took me in and helped me feel better than ever. I trust them to be sincerely patient-centered. They have longer appointments and leverage holistic health practices. More than healing the body (which they do well!), they heal the spirit. You can't help but wanting to give back and pay it forward. <br> <br>

I volunteer for Solano Family and Children's Services (SFCS) because I was once a single mother who would not have completed my education or learned how to be self-sufficient without subsidized childcare services. This organization provides assistance in a way that enables participants to retain their self-respect while improving their potential. Subsidized childcare enables parents to pay for childcare on a sliding scale based on their income. SFCS's childcare referral program is essential to the community. All parents can benefit from the free referral services provided. Unreliable childcare can be a source of stress, anxiety, missed work, and lost income. Reliable childcare benefits parents and employers alike. These services are coupled with a subsidized food program that educates childcare providers to deliver healthy snacks and meals to the children in their care and subsidizes their food costs for following the program. Having been a single parent in need of resources, programs like this were a lifeline and enabled me to retain my confidence and self-esteem while completing my education. So many welfare programs fail to promote growth and self-sufficiency, but the programs offered by Solano Family and Children's Services empower people to stand on their own feet.

The Leaven provides mentoring and tutoring services for at-risk children free of charge. They are responsible and frugal with the donations they receive and have tremendous support from the communities they serve. The children the work with do better in school and neighborhoods where the centers are located become better places to live. They focus on four primary areas. <br> <br>1. Homework assistance, tutoring, and skills building; <br>2. Reading enrichment; <br>3. Nutrition and physical activity that promote health and reduce childhood obesity; and <br>4. Programs to strengthen entire communities. <br> <br> <br>From a purely statistical viewpoint they do GREAT work! <br> <br>Percentage of donations that are used directly in programs for at-risk children: 79% <br> <br>Here's data from teachers and the police department for just one of The Leaven's locations: <br>100% of Leaven students showed improvement in reading and reading comprehension. <br>88% show improvement in math skills. <br>81% show improvement in class participation. <br> <br>Property crime decreased 37% over a 5-year span <br>Violent crime decreased by 82%! <br> <br>The Leaven has a significant impact. I've seen it in person at the centers and the stats back up my impressions. Here's the issue they're having, though: For each location they open they get requests for many more for which they do not have immediate funds available. This is a great organization that impacts lives locally as well as internationally. This is organization works solely on volunteer power and donations from members and the public, acquired through fundraising. Great for fellowship and feeling the power of doing good for others. It changes not only lives of those in need, but also the lives of those helping out others.

I am hardly objective as I am the founder of YIPPIE Foundation (Youth Initiating Professional Preparedness In Employment) but I certainly am only one of many who are passionate about the mission and work of this newer nonprofit. <br> <br>Selling yogurt is the social enterprise tool we use here at the YIPPIE Foundation. YIPPIE Foundation helps foster-care and low-income youth reach their potential as caring, contributing citizens through career development, mentoring, job training and work experience. <br> <br>Our nine month program starts at the beginning, giving youth three months of weekly training in basic job readiness skills, and then we put them into paid internships in our nonprofit’s new Yippie Yogurt® Training Center--a real self-serve yogurt shop! In the Yippie Yogurt shop they "earn while they learn", on-the-job for 6 months. While they’re with us, they also get one-on-one mentoring from adult volunteers and tour local businesses so they can see success at work right in their own communities. <br> <br>Simple? Yes. Easy? No. That’s why we’re asking for your assistance for our social enterprise. With additional financial support to build infrastructure and get us through an initial ramp-up, we project being 75% self-sustaining by August of 2014 and 100% by August 2015. <br> <br>We believe in "teaching kids to fish." These kids don't need a hand-out; they need a hand-up. <br> <br>We work with a challenging group: at-risk foster care, poverty-level and economically marginalized youth, ages 16 to 24. We will move mountains for them, but they have to bring a shovel, too. Our screening program for candidates is rigorous, requiring a written application, personal interviews, and the buy-in from a parent or guardian. We have a zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy so they have to be clean and remain clean while they’re with us. They also have to stay in school while maintaining a solid grade average. Our first “Yippie Academy,” encompassing both classes and mentoring, began in September, 2011 and the Yippie Yogurt Youth Job Training Center opened in 2012. All participants remain in school during the program, and there is a marked decrease in their risky behaviors as they strive to succeed in the Yippie program. <br> <br>We have seen miracles happen. <br> <br>Christian, Veronica and Miranda were recently hired at The Jelly Belly Factory; Ashley at Costco; Christine at McDonald’s and Lizabeth at The Home Depot (at $10.25 an hour!) and more. These results are huge as these at-risk youth have very difficult lives. <br> <br>“Joey” was removed from his home by CPS, along with his 3 brothers and sisters, and all have lived with his infirmed grandmother for the past ten years. Yet, he is a shining star in the Yippie Program! “Diana’s” mother and sister are in jail for life and her father is an active gang member. She “couch surfs” and is therefore technically “homeless”. “James’” abusive drunk father permanently injured his mother and now he must take care of her and his dying grandmother. “Dionne” is a single mother with two small children who is courageously attending Solano College while excelling in the Yippie program. <br> <br>But when they complete our Yippie program, all have new skills, greater hope and a newfound belief in their own abilities; with that, they raise both their confidence and their employability. <br> <br>We’ve completely funded the Foundation’s start-up out of fundraising, our own pockets and volunteer sweat equity…and happily so. We are debt-free and building a robust customer base. But the shop is still in its first year and unable to support the entire programming at this point. <br> <br>YIPPIE Academy has proven itself successful, and now we know we can help get more youth out of the cycle of generational poverty through our program. But we are in need of an Executive Director and short-term operating funds to get us to self-sufficiency. Our young people need a hand-up, not a hand-out, and right now so do we. <br> <br>Kindly consider partnering with the YIPPIE Foundation and providing additional opportunities for additional at-risk youth to participate in this much-needed and unique job training program. Child Haven offers psychological therapy for physically, sexually, violently or even mentally abused children in Solano County. They treat approximately 500 children a year at no cost to the victims. All therapists and everyone connected with this organization has the skills and the compassion with the determination to treat these families. A very worthwhile organization that has been around for almost 30 years.

Solano County Coats For Kids has provided new coats and jackets to the less fortunate children of Solano County since 2001. We rely soley on the monetary donations of the public to provide these services. Over the past few years the demand has far exceeded the donations. That being said, 2012 may be the last year we are in existence since we have no more funds to provide our services, unless we receive a large grant or donation this year. We ask for your help. This facility is a fantastic place for our teens to go and spend time playing sports and building quality life long friendships. Matt's untimely death gave us this facility. Thank you Matt and thank you to all the other supporters, donors and Solano County staff.
