Found a kitten I adored. Made an appointment to meet her. Fell in love and filled out an application to adopt. Was then presented for the next 3 weeks with hoop after hoop after hoop to jump through. I jumped through them all. It started with she had to meet EVERYONE in the household (no other shelter we've been to has that requirement, and with 6 people in the house, schedules can be hard, but we figured it out) and they had to fix her and there was a 3 day wait beyond that. Fine. Made sense. Then ALL of the animals needed to be up to date on vaccinations. Which I get. Again, fine, I made them all appointments. Then it was they didn't know if they could hold her until all of those appointments were done. I begged, since the appointments were the soonest I could possibly get and they agreed to hold her. When I filled out her application initially, I listed our dog Violet, our older cat Asimov, and Beelz (black kitten) because those were our current pets. With an application in on this kitten, I scheduled an appointment for our daughter to meet some other kittens because she wanted one as well. They initially had no issues with this and scheduled that appointment. The day of that appointment, we ended up adopting Pumpkin for our daughter, so I called to say we didn't need to meet other kittens, as we adopted one, but still wanted to visit the kitten I wanted, so she could meet all the other family members, per their policy. They didn't say ANYTHING about anything then. Today, I was told that they were "no longer comfortable" adopting her to us because we had 2 new kittens in the house AND because supposedly there is a 4 pet limit in our town... even though they didn't say anything a week before to any of that when they were informed of all of this. Add to that the fact that they called me 10 minutes before the pickup appointment KNOWING I had to drive an hour to get to them... We did check village ordinances and found they were correct in the limit, but also that exceptions could be made, and we called that office and have received permission for that exception in our household, but were still told that they would absolutely not adopt to us... so... I don't even know anymore. I'm extremely upset and keep crying and I can't in good conscience recommend them to anyone looking to adopt.

People Care Inc. is the board of directors which governs the non-profit child care center Children's Day Center and Preschool, located at 525 Madison Ave, Baraboo, WI.

Prior to moving to Baraboo in 2010, my husband and I toured the area day cares. We fell in love with CDC, from its sunny exterior to its large playgrounds, its location in a neighborhood next to a park and its quality, caring teachers.

We were struck by just how dedicated and committed to the children the teachers at CDC are. Studies show that a child’s most formative years occur from birth to 5 years old – the ages of children attending CDC. During these years, children begin to learn how to interact in social settings; they develop an understanding of spoken language and body language; they experience new emotions and learn acceptable ways to express those emotions; they learn enhanced logical reasoning skills; the seeds of learning are planted.

CDC’s teachers facilitate this learning by encouraging children to learn through play. With their guidance, the children navigate through social situations and problem solving. The children develop a natural curiosity and are encouraged to explore in a safe setting. The children are exposed to their potential.

The years our children spend at CDC set the foundation for their academic future, and it is the teachers who take their hands to lead them down a path of lifelong learning.

My husband and I began attending Board of Director meetings because we wanted to take an active role in our children’s early education. We didn’t realize when we first began attending meetings what a truly rewarding experience it would be to join the board.

Being new to the area, we didn’t know anyone. We met all of our friends through CDC’s board of directors. We met like-minded parents who also took an active interest in their children's education. We met the parents of our children’s friends. We learned more about the community we lived in.

Non-profit organizations cannot exist without the help of volunteers. To find out how to volunteer or to get involved with events and fundraisers, or to find out about tuition, please call the center at 608-356-4116 or email the board of directors at CDCParentBoard@gmail.com.

Take an active role in your child’s early education, too :)
