Alameda Nonprofits and Charities

The mindfulness practices offered by the Veterans Yoga Project teachers have been instrumental to my healing journey. They offer a variety of classes and practices that meet people where they are. I love having access to the virtual classes - there is something every day and for everyone! Thank you, VYP!

An amazing resource for the community of Alameda. Indoor activity for kids and families that's not a screen. The open league for all ages is a mainstay and draws 50 so people once a week and the tournaments just for kids are amazing too. Their hours are ample: 11 am to 9 pm 6 days a week (monday is repair the games day) so it's very accessible. The new "Women in Pinball" room shows they are always adding important elements to the museum. A great place!

APHE has been instrumental in me developing as a humane educator. Through the networking and resources that APHE offers, I have gained so much knowledge about the field, what's happening, and what's on the horizon. I've also gained strong connections with other humane educators across the country through the annual conference. That alone is priceless.

Healing Arts Project is an amazing organization, lead by a highly professional and skilled therapist (team). Their work is timely and serves populations in great need at critical times in the socio/political circumstances they might be facing.

Every community would benefit immensely from having organizations like Golden Hour Restoration Institute playing roles in tying people and their places together. The East Bay is certainly better off because of the work that Golden Hour engages in. Restoration work gets done, and people have fun and learn a lot while doing it ("education through action"). In that way, the effects of Golden Hour's projects are lasting: sites are restored, native species are bolstered, and people end up caring even more about their places and spread the word. Keep up the good work!

My niece was diagnosed with ALL at age 15, went into remission with chemo then received a secondary diagnosis of CML which required a bone marrow transplant. While waiting for a donor match, our family became aware of the role AADP plays in the Asian community to increase the donors on the registry. AADP does life-saving work and makes a difference in our community.

I've volunteered with APC and, have seen first hand how they positively impact their community. APC provides permanent housing and, provides supportive services to its formerly homeless residents using the decommissioned naval air station at Alameda Point. The APC community is so kind and strong. The APC agency has done an inspirational and beautiful job of providing a space for the community to flourish in happy and healthy ways. I loved volunteering at APC and genuinely felt like my time was going to a good cause. My volunteer experience was coordinated through the Fund Development department who were professional and did an effective job in hosting me. They put in a lot of hard work which really showed; I learned a lot about the agency as a whole as well as, the site where I volunteered.

Since completely shedding every vestige of the late and great biblical teacher and speaker to perhaps hundreds of thousands before his final debacle with the May 2011 Rapture prognosis, Harold Camping remains in effect as dismissed as a follower of the Watchtower who questions their dictates or an LDS member in good faith who discovers the truth about their great white father Brigham Young and is asked to move to the state three away in distance from Utah. Camping wrote some monumental works about biblical subjects, as well as about evolution and the Garden of Eden. His biblical analysis of books such as Ruth are somewhat incomparable in subject matter and spiritual depth and in light of these efforts and his pioneering the original christian radio station in California in 1960; he might be forgiven and even consulted within his works which unfortunately have been deleted from the previously vast family network library. This reminds me of the PRC/Chinese Cultural Revolution where every shred of history was destroyed as being decadent.

Why don't you tell them what really happened Mim? Stop trying to mask negligence behind misleading statements. What you are asking people to believe is that you were: <br> <br>A. allowing the staff, volunteers and the general public to be around a dog that you "deemed" dangerous or, <br>B. the dog wasn't dangerous; but you have to put a spin on the story to protect yourself from public backlash or, <br>C the dog was considered adoptable for 6 months and then all of the sudden, turned into a dangerous dog or, <br>D the treatment and care that he was subjected to during his stay created a "dangerous dog" which you then allowed a senior citizen to walk in public <br> <br>In order for people to believe your version of events (clearly created to protect your own reputation) you are asking people to willfully suspend all forms of logic while at the same time holding out your hand requesting donations for your "no-kill" facility.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California is an amazing nonprofit that serves the epilepsy community fully and openheartedly. We first found them through our neurologist when my infant was diagnosed with epilepsy. It was such a scary time but they have provided immense support, opportunities and events for those of us to not feel alone, find community, and support. Also, what's even more amazing is their camps for youth and families with epilepsy, to be able to experience something that most kids take for granted but children with epilepsy only dream of, as often times they aren't offered such an opportunity at other camps due to their epilepsy. What an amazing organization and what amazing programs that they provide!

The MS Quality of Life Project was my lifeline for me and my late husband. I turned to them for everyday practical needs as well for support with coping with major health decisions. I remember the day when my husband began to have trouble walking and we were stuck on a sidewalk in Pacific Grove. In a panic, I called the MS Quality of Life Project. They dropped what they were doing and sent an angel with a walker to the sidewalk where we were stuck. We were able to complete our very important doctor’s visit. Another instance I called from CHOMP hospital and again I received helpful information in a time of crisis. I was able to make important decisions based on their help. My daughter called MS Quality of Life to interview one of their staff for her senior project in high school. She was able to present a well informed talk about MS educating the community. I could never say enough wonderful things about MS Quality of Life. They are outstanding and excellent in every way. They have been an amazing gift to me. Thank you MS Quality of Life from the bottom of my heart!

As a volunteer it is such a great pleasure delivering to Seniors. It has spurred me to look into more ways to visit with them. Alameda Meals On Wheels has such an enthusiastic, energetic and dedicated group of people, they add to my pleasure in serving the community.

After spending nearly a year of preparing the first vessel for the sea, we are only a week away from this reality! It has been a tremendous effort and experience to see this idea come to life! IRG aims to bring food, aid, and supplies to coastal communities affected by disasters through leveraging private cruisers from around the world.

Candice made me uncomfortable and angry. I wanted to complain formally against her, but their website doesn't allow it. Helping Hands East Bay. She claimed that my brother has sensory issues and kept telling us to enroll him in a baby swimming class. Wrong advice. Wasteful. My brother is too scared to go into the pool. Our old ABA therapy supervisor had suggested that he take swimming lessons w/someone trained in dealing with autistic kids and it has to be a one-on-one w/him. My brother's 19. no way can he go in the baby class. that doesn't even begin to make sense. She kept speaking to me like I'm an idiot. I looked really uncomfortable and even more after she placed her hands on my back, my arms, ect. She kept asking if I wanted a break. I was just watching them. I insisted that I was fine....frequently. She kept asking if I wanted a sandwich. She looked like she felt so sorry for me. I was fine. Autism is a spectrum. My brother will never be like her son unless if there's a medical breakthrough. How insulting. I assisted with his ABA therapy sessions. I know that he can be violent, too. She thinks that my brother can be like her son and we can eliminate his sensory issues. How absurd! He's had years of ABA therapy. So what if she's an OT? This is the most effective therapy for kids w/autism. Also, she needs to learn professionalism. She hugged my brother w/o his permission and he looked uncomfortable. She kept putting her hands on his arms. She insists he'll like it. SHe'd try to bring her son over in the middle of a basketball game to prove her point. HE DOESN'T LIKE HUGS. She made him hug, too. her son and my brother are DIFFERENT PEOPLE. Many autistic people don't. Read about it. Psychology Today, Science Daily. Noel was much more respectful. He has a Master's in developmental psychology and acknowledged that I'm the expert on my brother.

Executive Director (ED) Cindy Houts (formerly ED of Alameda County Meals On Wheels) is doing a tremendous job of "modernizing" the Alameda Food Bank facility and services by creating a more welcoming environment for its clients. Both the Distribution Center and the Warehouse operations are top-notch and improving all the time, with energetic, caring Staff members working daily with the needy in Alameda. No one should go hungry in this "land of plenty" nation, no matter what her or his socio-economic status or current situation might be. Remember that cash donations are the very best way to help Ms. Houts and her Staff do the important work they have taken on, on behalf of our citizens and the community-at-large!

Outstanding organization that is positioned on the west side of Alameda within easy access of apartments and the City Housing units. The facility is 26,000 SQFT and serves nearly 180 kids a day. The organization provides a wide variety of programs including education, technology, arts, fitness, nutrition, dental services, teen programs and a fully equipped games room. The staff are fantastic and the organization has served the Island youth since 1949. When I invest I like to see a return on my investment. It is easy to see how this organization is making an impact on youth.

AAPS was created and is run by a cadre of dedicated volunteers who help educate the public about Alameda's rich historical legacy and promote further preservation, provide resources for residents hoping to restore their homes, assist city staff with historical information and details and advocate for the preservation and full use of buildings such as the Carnegie Library, the historic Alameda Theater and the Moderne builings at the former NAS Alameda. As a result of their dedication, Alameda is a richer, more vibrant city.

Remarkable organization whose mission is to inspire and mentor public school students to achieve excellence in math by connecting middle school Algebra students for remote tutoring and mentoring from top-notch, high tech engineers and other professionals that use math regularly. The tutoring/mentoring is done through a web-based, interactive whiteboard and an audio connection, allowing mentors and students the flexibility of connecting from separate locations after school. If you think this might interest you - consider volunteering. This is a fantastic volunteer opportunity for busy professionals - just one hour per week done from anywhere the volunteer has internet access. This growing organization is expanding in terms of the number of schools it partners with. Truly a cutting edge and game changing approach to education. The kids (and the volunteers) will benefit tons.
