Suicide rates are much higher in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community than in the regular population. An estimated 40% of LGBTQ youth have attempted suicide.
The LGBTQ youth community is especially at risk for depression and suicide because they often feel isolated and can have a hard time finding acceptance from peers and family. They are three times as likely to report not feeling safe in school, due to the fact that 90% of LGBTQ youth have been harassed or assaulted in the past year.
